Perry backs a constitutional limit on marriage
Edited on Sun Jul-31-11 12:02 AM by TomCADem
Source: Associated Press

Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Saturday he supports a federal limit on gay marriage and thinks a creator put life on Earth.

The Republican governor is considering a GOP presidential bid and preparing for his first political stop ahead of the key early primary in South Carolina, where social issues always play well. But Perry told The Associated Press in a telephone interview that a presidential campaign would concentrate on jobs, not evolution or gay marriage.

* * *
Perry said the stimulus and job creation efforts of President Barack Obama haven't worked. "I think we poured about $4 trillion down that rat hole and government has not created a job," he said.

Supporters of the stimulus plan point out that jobs were saved because of the effort congressional Republicans opposed. And while Perry fought Washington over accepting a portion of Obama's economic stimulus package because of strings attached to the money, the state ended up using billions of the federal aid to balance the state budget, avoiding a possible financial disaster.

12. It's not hard to understand
The problem is, politicians know they can exploit religion to their political advantage, so they do so - selling their souls in the process.

2. The true value of Marriage
It seems to me that for the Christian/GOP/TP, Marriage boils down to what's between a persons legs. When the love is gone, 'marriage' is nothing more than a legal binding contract. Love is what gives marriage its TRUE value and they will NEVER be able to stop people from loving one another.

...On a Political note: I'm not understanding how these people keep screaming "Big Government" but then expect that same "Big Government" to define Marriage. Do they think we don't notice the inconsistency?

3. Christofascist.
He's going to run for president, and the mouth-breathing inbreds out there in FAUXNOOZ land will harken to his inspired message of GAWD, Guns and Teh Ghey, and "Progressives" will still be pissed that Obama didn't get them laid or bought them a pony or punched Cantor's lights out on the floor of the House and then it'll be "President Perry".

And then in the words of Art Spiegelman, "And Here my Troubles Began"...

Yeah, I'm not all that happy with Barry, either, but the thought of President Perry makes me sit bolt upright screaming in the middle of the night.

8. "Do you know who I am?": Quote from the Gov' to a DPS trooper that actually...
...stopped his limo for speeding(big-time) and ticketed his driver. This was captured by the Trooper's camera, both video and audio, a few years ago. I have never seen the video used against him, ...of course, he has been in power since then.

Yeah, he's just one of the guys, someone that you would want to have a beer with.

Yes... the campaign would be all about jobs... like all those GOP Congressional campaigns were.

THEN.... after the election, it's all gays and fetuses.

Besides, anyone who does understand the fact of evolution is not qualified to serve as President.

18. Except for those 100,000 teachers who just got their last paycheck Friday
and those 10,000 state employees who did the same, right?

Perry HAS created a small industry trying to find out if he really is a gay man married to a beard, however, so there is that.

He is a supposed "champion" of the private sector, but most of the job creation in his state has been from the public sector.

23. anyone running against him will have to address this
Yes, more people are working in Texas than when Perry took office, but...

*Should he personally get credit for this?

*Is it okay just to create jobs, or should they be good jobs? Texas is toward the bottom of the pack in high-school graduation rate, income, and fraction of residents with health insurance. These are all signs that most of the jobs being created are not actually providing anyone with a livelihood or economic security. This should be a good talking point for populist Democrats.

24. Why stop at gay marriage?
Okay, man and woman. Got it.

Mixed race? Hmmm. . . We see where that's gotten us?

How about 1st cousins, so popular in parts of the country?

Age differences? Maybe a man or woman shouldn't be permitted to marry anyone younger than his or her own child. Think about that for a minute. That's just creepy.

How about single parents? Should they be allowed to wed? Does it depend on circumstances?

Or this. Maybe people should be prohibited from marrying outside their religion.

Or how about this one? Muslims should not be permitted to marry at all.

Or perhaps there should be restrictions on marriages between people in different ethnic or economic backgrounds. The West Side Story is an example of the former and Anna Nicole Smith one of the latter.

And since the fundamentalists believe that the purpose of marriage is procreation, marriages should be annulled by the state, mandatorily, if offspring are not produced within, say, three years of marriage. I'll be generous. It's okay to have only one.

Really, think about how all of these marriage options contribute to the erosion of so-called conventional Christian marriage. So, let's get it all out on the table. To prohibit gay marriage without imposing controls on other types of marriage is hypocritical.
