Officers from a London-based cybercrime unit detained Jake Davis on Wednesday in a "pre-planned intelligence-led operation" on the Shetland Islands before taking him to London for questioning.

Davis is accused of gaining unauthorised access to a computer system, encouraging or assisting offences and two counts of conspiracy to commit offences.

Police said Wednesday they believed Davis was "linked to an ongoing international investigation into the criminal activity of the so-called 'hacktivist' groups Anonymous and LulzSec, and uses the online nickname 'Topiary' which is presented as the spokesperson for the groups."

1. They can't find Murdoch's evil doers.
... but they are right on top of dangerous "spokesmen". Scotland Yard has become a bad joke.

4. Amazing that people take these kids seriously...
...and believe they are some kind of ideological, revolutionary movement.

Anonymous/LulzSec = bored kids and techies on 4chan acting out for the lols.

5. Don't 'misunderestimate' them
Some of them may be young, but they've proven that they have the ability to reveal secrets--and some powerful people find that VERY threatening, and they take them VERY seriously. They will do everything in their power to crush them.

6. Oh, I'm not questioning the skills of some of them...
..there are a few really talented kids revealing all sorts of secrets powerful people don't want in public view.

But the vast majority are not doing it for any particular political reason. Do they lean left? Probably, younger people and the tech community tend to. But this is not some online progressive revolution. At heart, its a bunch of 4chan kids having a laugh.

I'm torn on what they do. On the one hand I don't outright support lawbreaking/hacking, but a little sunshine is a good disinfectant.
