Arctic sea ice hits record low for July: satellite data
Source: Nunatsiaq News

Arctic sea ice extent in July 2011 broke its previous record low set for that month in 2007, the National Snow and Ice Data Center said today.

Arctic ice cover reached the lowest level for July recorded by satellites from 1979 to 2011.

Average ice extent for this past July was 7.92 million square kilometres. That’s 210,000 km below the previous record low for the month, set in July 2007, reported the NSIDC’s Colorado-based scientists on Aug. 3.

... New data also shows more of the Arctic’s oldest ice disappeared, with measurements showing a decline in the oldest, thickest ice
.

1. I find all these stories about sea ice
and global warming too distressing for words. I hate to say it, but I'm glad I won't be alive to see all the death and destruction it is going to bring.

8. Unfortunately, we may be around to see it
If re-incarnation is the way life works (big if), then we'll be around to see the shift in inhabitable areas, the wars to fight over them, the end of oil, gas, coal, with the attendant famine.

I'm just having a bad day, so it cheers me to see the valueless empty waste that is in our universe's future.

:)

13. We're already seeing death and destruction
Unless you expect to die in the next 20 years, you'll get to see a whole lot of it due to global warming.

2. no doubt
It's been hotter than a pepper sprout this year in very odd places.

“It was 123 degrees in Minnesota. How far is Al Gore going to take this global warming hoax?” Bill Maher

4. Last Friday, here in the DC area it was 103 degrees
Other sources measured it as 104, but at Ronald Reagan National Airport, taking the air quality index into account, it felt like 120 degrees it was reported. Washington, as you may or may not know, was built on a swamp, and the humidity here has been off the charts. And to make matters worse, for the first time ever, my air conditioning broke down. It was finally fixed Monday around Noon, was on a wonderful five hours until the electrical storm hit and the power went off. Unbelievable.

6. Melbourne Australia just had the hottest
August day on record - thats ever in recorded history. August being middle of winter. The next day it broke that record and then again the next. It was 23 degrees when the average is around 12.

Not just three years ago we had the worst bush fires (Australian bush fires make US / Russian Bushfires look like a gas burner on your stove - almost 200 people died) - weeks of temperatures above 113 farenheit (45 celcius, )sometimes pushing 120 (49). This in an area where it snows during winter.....If you want to know what the future is going to look like in America I direct you to global warming effects from last year and the year before in Australia. Worst cyclones (hurricanes) in living memory, worst floods in living memory, worst fires in living memory. Pretty much everything that can gn wrong, does go wrong. Victoria had floods as well as bushfires and drought.

This is what global climate change looks like.

ETA: I remember looking in horror at some of the floods you had ... and the heat ... where the koala bear was approached by a human with water and it took it gladly. (Or was that the fire?)
