BAGHDAD, Iraq - Ten U.S. troops were killed on Saturday in combat across Iraq (news - web sites) — including five U.S. Marines killed in pitched battles near the Syrian border — and an eleventh soldier died in a tank rollover, the military said.

The deaths brought to 99 the number of U.S. troops killed in violence since April 1.

Two Iraqi civilians were killed in a guerrilla rocket barrage in Baghdad, the U.S. military said Sunday.

In the far-western city of Husaybah, five Marines were killed during a daylong firefight waged after a Marine patrol was ambushed Saturday morning by insurgents with machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades.

2. What worries me is that the big battle may still be to come
It is so senseless. We need good negotiators and need to stop being so stubborn.

3. We are only two-thirds of the way through this month!!!!

It is going to be so, so difficult to recover any trust that has been obliterated by the freon neocons and their corporatist following.

The freaks of war have got to go!!!

4. the news about the deaths certainly comes out slowly
not that the news is controlled or anything-BTW how will the US pay for this? I can't see the budget going anywhere but massively in the red as a result of the violence-we barely had the money before the attacks started in April-after all the human tragedy the budget debt will be the next shoe to fall-God help us
