Gay republicans say its hard to back Bush

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - Gay Republicans are stung by President Bush's support for a ban on same-sex marriages and are divided over where to turn in November, with many weighing party loyalty against outrage.

"I'm going to have a hard time going with Bush. In my good conscience, I don't know how I can support him," said Shawn Gardner, one of several hundred party members attending this weekend's annual convention of the Log Cabin Republicans, a gay GOP organization that backed Bush in 2000.

"It's difficult for me to reconcile him having turned his back on an organization that supported him," said Gardner, who was among an estimated 1 million gays who voted for the president four years ago.

Many gays see the proposed amendment banning gay marriage as an assault on equal rights.

The Log Cabin Republicans have aired 30-second TV ads in several states featuring Vice President Dick Cheney and a remark he made in a debate four years ago: "People should be free to enter into any kind of relationship they want to enter into."

Um....why the HELL would they vote for someone who panders to the minority of Americans who think they are sub-human and should have NO rights at all?

Seriously! I've seen those RW-ers go on about the "homosexual agenda" what sense does that term even MAKE? Do I have a "female heterosexual agenda??" It's all just bizarre to me, the way they think.

I had a penpal in Baghdad whose wife was Reserves and also stationed in Iraq -- their three kids were being raised by grandparents for over a year, however, it's the gays getting married that "threaten the family."

All they have to do is visit a public forum, like Yahoo message boards, or perhaps FreeRepublic, or that Lucianne Goldberg's place.. look for a reference to the articles out today about their group... then read the comments of their FELLOW GOPers. That should be enough to make them run screaming to the Democratic Party. The rank and file GOP do not want them, any more than the GOP brass does. If they'd being GOP for financial reasons, they need to do some damn research. They will ALWAYS fair better when the grown-ups (dems) are in charge.
