Rick Perry to make 2012 intentions clear Saturday
Source: Politico

Rick Perry intends to use a speech in South Carolina on Saturday to make clear that he's running for president, POLITICO has learned.

According to two sources familiar with the plan, the Texas governor will remove any doubt about his White House intentions during his appearance at a RedState conference in Charleston.

It's uncertain whether Saturday will mark a formal declaration, but Perry's decision to disclose his intentions the same day as the Ames straw poll — and then hours later make his first trip to New Hampshire — will send shock waves through the race and upend whatever results come out of the straw poll.

Immediately following his speech in South Carolina, Perry will make his New Hampshire debut at a house party at the Portsmouth-area home of a state representative, Pamela Tucker, the Union Leader reported Monday. Tucker was among the Granite Staters who went to Texas last week to encourage Perry to run.

Very clever: if he does well in Ames, it's a "game changer" brought about by his announcement; if he doesn't, well, he wasn't campaigning in Iowa and it was just coincidental that he made a speech that day.

1. I can't wait.
:sarcasm:

THe GOP field is filled with pretty much fundamentalist lunatics. Pray away the Gay. Pray for rain.

I pray they all just go away.

11. fundamentalism
Isn't this the same problem they have in the Middle East? Christian or Islamic fundamentalism is a problem when it tries to control the values and social behavior of others. In Pakistan, it's depriving girls of education and women's self-sufficiency. Here is is deprioving women of the right to choose.

12. Fundamentalism of any stripe
is a problem wherever it may be. In the Middle East the Islamic fundamentalists make the lives of their people prety damn awful.

Don't know how far ours would go if given a chance but am not that interested in finding out. I seriously doubt it would get as bad as it is in places like Saudi Arabia or Iran but it would be regressive none the less.

Is it still allowed to be an atheist?

15. Yeah, but I doubt
we'll ever have one in the White House, at least not an admitted one.

I really don't like that Presidential candidates have to openly profess their faith and be questioned on beliefs that should be left private.

16. I wonder how many future presidents will be wearing flag pins?
That's another tradition I'd like to see die.

I asked a southern Bible belter the other day what she did to make her tomatoes grow so well. She said she just planted them and the good lord took care of them. The good lord likes her tomatoes better than my tomatoes.

17. I have no tomatoes
It's not a lord problem; it's a deer problem. I can't seem to pray the deer away.

19. LOL
Maybe if you prayed for the return of a certain God's creature, like the grizzly?

I have a RW praying cousin who named his five kids after prophets in the Bible. I've since lost touch, but I'd wondered if his next child was going to be named Methuselah, or Deuteronomy.

7. You misread the tea leaves grasshopper....
Perry narrowly one this re-election (he has a well oiled machine), but Houston is blue blue blue. Just look at our mayor. No one is even challenging her. Even my fundamentalist SIL will not vote for Perry. The way he handled the budget has pretty much caused people to abandon him. He is seen as a useful idiot for his wealthy backers.

He could lose Texas. I don't have any numbers, but he's extremely unpopular here, even among republicans.
