Nine Years After Oklahoma City Bombing, Families Still Searching for Coconspirators

McALESTER, Okla. (AP) - For Jannie Coverdale, the search for suspects in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing that killed her two grandsons and 166 other people did not end with the arrests of Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols. snip

Earlier this month, Coverdale sent a letter to FBI Director Robert Mueller asking that the investigation into the April 19, 1995, bombing be reopened, citing the bureau's failure to share evidence of possible bombing coconspirators with top bombing investigators. She said she has not received a reply.

"Who's going to investigate the investigators?" she said. snip

In their motion, Nichols' defense attorneys said they have questioned potential witnesses who can identify other possible suspects, including members of a gang of white supremacists known as the Midwest bank robbers.

They allege federal investigators have impeded their efforts to obtain information about the bank robbery gang and McVeigh's connection with Elohim City, a white supremacist enclave in northeastern Oklahoma.

1. My dad was one of the survivors of the OKC bombings...

... and frankly, I think he has moved on. I know I have.

I blame a lot of what happened in New York on the Republicans. OKC was the wake up call, just some people remained asleep at the wheel:

September 12, 1996 - "U.S. Deputy Attorney General Jamie Gorelick told reporters the U.S. remains vulnerable to terrorist attacks from abroad -- but that much of the proposed "fix" must remain secret, while his boss, Attorney General Janet Reno , faced the bright lights of a Senate panel Thursday trying to defend the billion-dollar counter- terrorism proposal. " reported CNN. It goes on to say "Congressional Republicans are demanding to know where the Clinton administration plans to make cuts to fund the anti- terrorism program. And GOP critics claim the administration program is too much, too late, and contains many controversial proposals."

Interesting, huh? Almost 5 years to the DAY of 9/11. I have been wondering if we had spent the billion then if it would have prevented 9/11.

Too bad we will never know. And we can blame the Republicans whose motto is "it wasn't my fault!".

2. Didn't Richard Clarke say this investigation needs to be re-opened?
I seem to remember this being a comment he made recently.

7. I still wonder who the...
man with the "olive-colored skin" was who was accompanying McVeigh. Remember the composite sketches that were drawn up from descriptions of the TWO men who rented the Ryder truck? He was short...had "olive-colored skin" and was stocky-built,...and was wearing a baseball cap! Why don't we hear about this individual any more? There is still something very sinister going on with that! And what ever became of the boxes of evidence...if I remember correctly it was a hundred or so boxes...that Ashcroft refused to share with McVeigh's attorney's? I think McVeigh was wasted to keep him quiet more than for punishment!

3. Newt Gingrich is their man
He was directly responsible for much of the rhetoric that drove misguided Tim McVeigh(R) over the edgo.

4. Get ready to hear the right wing link Saddam to OK City
A new book out tries to make the case that a "third" bomber was a middle eastern man with links to Iraq. Apparently there is a quite a few in the administration who buy into this theory. I expect Fox to be airing much about this book soon.

5. I believe the actual plan was to blame it on Iraqis in the beginning
Large Iraqi population living in OK, the Gulf war had just ended, Clinton would have been forced to invade Iraq and get blamed for all of the deaths, but the blast blew that damn license plate off of McVeigh's getaway car and ruined everything for someone. The rest is history.

Nine years to the day after OKC.

God help this country.

Good for the families.
