Pataki: Democrats didn't Respond to Terror Threat, READ DOWN
Edited on Mon Apr-19-04 05:11 AM by NewHampshireDem
Read down for this part

One of the remarks caused Democrats to demand an apology: State Rep. Jennifer Carroll made a joke that suggested Democratic Sen. Hillary Clinton could help the country best if she was assassinated.

<snip>

Earlier in the day, Carroll opened her remarks during a discussion of Senate races by making a joke about Clinton. She said the New York senator and former first lady was visited by the ghosts of three presidents - Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln - and asked each what she could do to help the nation.

Carroll said Lincoln's response was "Go to a theater." Lincoln was assassinated in Ford's Theater in Washington.

Florida Democratic Party Chairman Scott Maddox and Welch called for an apology.

"I am shocked that an elected official would suggest anything having to do with an assassination of a U.S. senator. She should apologize," Maddox said. "It's completely fair to joke about a policies or personal traits, but to joke about assassination is in poor taste.

Carroll said she didn't think the joke was inappropriate.

"You infer what you want to infer, but I never said assassinate, or kill or maim," Carroll said.

2. She must've changed the joke!

This is how I heard it:

Bush Seeks Help

One night, George W. Bush is tossing restlessly in his White House bed. He awakens to see George Washington standing by him. Bush asks him, "George, what's the best thing I can do to help the country?" "Set an honest and honorable example, just as I did," Washington advises, then
fades away.

The next night, Bush is astir again, and sees the ghost of Thomas Jefferson moving through the darkened bedroom. Bush calls out, "Tom, please! What is the best thing I could do to help the country?" "Respect the Constitution, as I did," Jefferson advises, and dims from sight.

The third night sleep is still not in the cards for Bush. He awakens to see the ghost of F. D. R. hovering over his bed. Bush whispers, "Franklin, What is the best thing I could do to help the country?" "Help the less fortunate, just as I did," FDR replies and fades into the mists.

Bush isn't sleeping well the fourth night when he sees another figure moving in the shadows. It is the ghost of Abraham Lincoln. "Abe, what is the best thing I can do right now, to help the country?" Bush pleads.

Abe replies, "Go see a play."
:)

3. ...
Despicable.

Hilary jokes about an Indian stereotype with Ghandi and people demanded an apology.

If you ask me, Senator Carroll has made the same mistake, if not to a more serious degree. I expect to hear a very sincere apology, and I hope to hear it soon.

4. NHD, you'll have to change your headline for LBN...
Edited on Mon Apr-19-04 05:09 AM by DeepModem Mom
to conform to the actual headline, or repost in GD, or the mods will lock --

When something's buried down in a story, it's difficult to highlight at LBN -- I've experienced the same problem.

10. I had to look up this toadie to see what she's all about.

First, does this photo give you any ideas?

From her website:
Representative Jennifer Carroll

Representative Jennifer Carroll’s life exemplifies public service. She currently represents the people of District 13, which covers parts of Duval and Clay counties, with the same sense of honor and duty she fostered in the U.S. Navy.

She was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2003. She is the first African-American female Republican ever to be elected to the Florida Legislature. Her legislative priorities are bills addressing Juvenile Justice and Neighborhood Crime Watch Programs and a specialty license plate supporting the Live the Dream Foundation.

In the House, she serves as the Vice-Chair on the Subcommittee for Transportation & Economic Development Appropriations. In addition, she is a member of the Insurance and Procedures committees, and the Subcommittee on Ethics & Elections, and the Select Committee on Affordable Housing. In January 2004 Rep. Carroll was named Deputy Majority Leader of the House by Speaker Johnnie Byrd.

Rep. Carroll’s public service began in 1979 when she enlisted in the Navy as a Jet Mechanic. She rose through the ranks to receive her commission as an officer and retire after twenty years as a Lieutenant Commander. She earned numerous service medals which demonstrate her service to the country.

Republicans have been trying to destroy Hillary Clinton from the very first. They are such LOSERS! Just LOOK at the kind of people who compose their ranks. They have NO ONE! NO ONE! Psychopaths and simple idiots.

11. nor did Ms. Carroll say
bludgeon, guillotine, impale, axe, hatchet, sword, decapitate, murder, butcher, stab with a dagger, shoot, dismember, draw and quarter, crucify, hang, feed to the sharks, gibbet axe, necklace, burn at the stake, gas, poison, etc.

By the same token, just because I reference innovative forms of execution carried out by the Nazis at Plötzensee does not give anybody warrant to infer that I believe Republicans in Congress should be hanged in bunches of eight.

16. What IS the definition of "is"?
Frankly, I'd rather be talking about blowjobs than assassinations.
