GIs Kill 2 Workers of U.S.-Funded Iraq TV
BAGHDAD, Iraq - U.S. troops shot to death two employees of a U.S.-funded television station Al-Iraqiya on Monday and wounded a third in the central city of Samara, the station said.

Correspondent Asaad Kadhim and driver Hussein Saleh were killed. Cameraman Bassem Kamel was wounded "after American forces opened fire on them while they were performing their duty," the station announced.

The station, which is funded by the Pentagon, interrupted its broadcasts Monday evening and began airing only Quranic texts as a symbol of mourning.

The U.S. military had no immediate comment.

7. This isn't the first time...
..this has happened. Back in August, US troops killed a Reuters cameraman. Their excuse was that they mistook his camera for a rocket launcher. Wonder if they'll trot that one out again.

12. I have heard (News stories here) that drug use is rampant in Iraq.

Troops on station for 30 hours at a time, etc.
What do you think they are using, coffee?
I do not have any information that they are getting
government issue crank, it's just an assumption that
they are using something, and it would not surprise me
either way.

Edit: if your ass was on the line, what would you do to
stay awake?

15. They
must have mistaken them for actual journalists..

They've been KILLING media guys right and left over there, there's a whole history of it.

remember the night before they pulled down Saddam's statue they took out a whole floor in a hotel filled with news people.

why?

no coverage but their own.

they are creating the PNN or Pentagon News Network right now, so they can report on all the puppies and butterflies plagueing the troops.

16. That should tell anyone that our troops have the green light to...
...shoot at anything that moves.

Pretty sad story, but not even a fraction of the sadness I feel for the children that are being killed.

19. Well, the US troops were just doing their duty ...
slaughtering media correspondents who try to report on what's going on in Iraq. After all, if the truth gets out, it can cause all sorts of problems.
