10 Bangladeshis missing in Iraq
By Staff Reporter
Apr 19, 2004, 14:04

Ten out of 52 Bangladeshis who were smuggled to Iraq allegedly by a travel agent remained missing. Many suspect that they might have been killed in at combat in Iraq. The rest are stranded now in Iraq and are in inhuman condition at a hotel near the Mazar Sharif of Baro Pir Hazrat Abdul Quader Zilani (RA) in Baghdad. This was disclosed by the relatives of the stranded and missing at a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters Unity in the city yesterday.

The relatives alleged that the Bangladeshis were sent to Jordan on the plea of better job by the owner of Grand Overseas Ltd, a travel agency located in Dhaka, by four flights between March 19 to 28 this year.

But the Bangladeshis were smuggled out into Iraq after two days staying in Jordan. Relatives of the victims came to know that 38 of them were staying at a hotel “ Al Wafit hotel” at Al Macha Street near the Mazar Sharif of Baro Pir Hazrat Abdul Quader Zilani (RA) in Baghdad.

Relatives of the victims urged upon the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister, the State Minister for the Expatriate and Human Rights organisations to come forward to locate them and arrange for their repatriation.
