Source: Pataki Won't Seek 2012 Presidential Run
Source: NY 1

NY1 has learned former New York governor George Pataki will not run for president in 2012.

A source close to the former governor says the decision is personal, and not tied to a late start or fundraising.

A formal statement is expected sometime today.

If he were to have entered the packed GOP field, Pataki would have faced several major obstacles including little campaign cash and facing opponents who have been meeting voters in Iowa and New Hampshire for months.

I wonder if the "personal decision" had to do with not wanting to be embarrassed by a mediocre performance that would have made Rudy's 2008 campaign look impressive.

4. Tea party fears?
Pataki is more moderate and pragmatic as Republicans go. He'd get eaten alive by the Tea Party and militia movements.
