Frist funnels cash to Daschle's foe

WASHINGTON - Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., is relying on his fund-raising strength to try to oust his Democratic rival — Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle, D-S.D. Frist has helped funnel more than $150,000 so far this year to Republican John Thune, who is trying to unseat the three-term Daschle in what is expected to be one of the most competitive Senate races.

In 2002, Thune lost to Democratic Sen. Tim Johnson by 524 votes in South Dakota, a Republican-leaning state that President Bush won handily two years earlier.

Like most House and Senate leaders, Frist has a political action committee that he uses to help Republican candidates. PACs can only donate $10,000 to a candidate, but Frist is accepting donations for Thune through his leadership PAC.

1. That could be the single nastiest race in the US this year.
It's going to be a bloodbath.

2. I will support Tom Daschle, but he is a failure as our Senate leader
I hope he wins for the people of South Dakota and for our Democratic majority, but what is it going to take to get him out of the leadership role? Will he have to lose his seat before he steps down from a position he has failed at?

7. I agree.
He has been all but invisible and hope after he is reelected a REAL leader is selected.

5. Well, I suppose it's better than the anthrax they sent Daschle in 2001.
Notice how Bush's 'War' on (for) terror did/does not include the anthrax investigation? Apparently, all of Cheney's pet projects were/are not on the table for investigation.

Cheers,
-Lori Price
