Boxer: I hope greens sue Obama
Source: Politico

Senate Environment and Public Works Chairwoman Barbara Boxer said she hopes green groups sue President Barack Obama over his decision to punt a regulation curbing smog-creating emissions until at least 2013.

Boxer — whose relatively mild reaction to Obama’s surprise announcement Friday was in contrast to heated rebukes by environmental groups — said she will stand by those groups in any litigation to force the administration to issue a final ozone rule that goes beyond what was enacted by President George W. Bush.

Environmental groups charged that Obama made a political calculus by punting on a rule that was a particular target of critics who charge his regulatory agenda has hurt the economy and jobs.

Boxer didn’t quite go there. “I’m not making any charge. I’m just saying I disagree, strongly, with their decision,” she told reporters Tuesday. She added, “And I hope they’ll be sued in court and I hope the court can stand by the Clean Air Act.”

14. Boxer represents the kind of silliness on the left
that one finds among the teabaggers on the right. Obama is merely trying to balance the need for jobs with environmental needs. Besides, why should new standards be issued now, when a new review will begin in 2013? To freak out about this is yet another instance of Obama Derangement Syndrome.

Not knowing you, I wouldn't have known without your disclaimer at the end that you weren't being serious, because a lot of defenders WOULD say something exactly like that and mean it. 29. Just got my weekly briefing from the NAHB (Nat'l Home Builders Assn) who are
CROWING about their victory over this "jobs-killing" clean air regulation.

Even though I'm a contractor I have found that the EPA's regulations are a better, more effective method of cleaning up our nation's air, water, and soil than the free-market 'solutions' offered by developers and builders. Go figure.

REC.

p.s. The normal scheduled review stipulated in The Clean Air Act will be in 2013 (every 5 years) - that is when changes will be made and put into effect.

43. Some of the arguments are very convoluted and unconvincing
If rules put out now are not implemented until 2013, then when would the rules from the next cycle where the review starts in 2013 be implemented?

For of all there are two possibilities, Obama is re-elected or he loses. If he loses, the likelihood of better regulations is very low. So, assume Obama wins. In the best case, the results come in and the review is done as quickly as possible and the rules come out at the end of 2013 - note that the Obama administration has taken about 3 years to do this - but using the time from the first paragraph - they will not be implemented until 2015.

Bush apparently skipped the first review in his tenure (2003) and the 2008 recommendations were challenged by Obama and others as too weak. Apparently the rules in effect are from the 1990s - and they are weaker than the too weak 2008 recommendations.

What this means is that the regulations that the act expects could be updated every 5 years will go at least 15 years since the last change.

In addition, when the act says to use the most current data - that is what they did. There will always be new studies starting.

Boxer should call Sarah Palin, who we all know is intensly interested in the care of youngsters with disabilities.

(Anybody notice that one of the few "entitlements" Sarah has not gone after is the Americans With Disabilities Act.
Anybody want to bet she is not taking advantage of all the freebies and financial aids that the ADA makes available to the disabled and families of disabled. That's on top of the free government paid health care Trig gets from being Todd's son.)

72. Boxer is right. Obama punt = campaign cash. I was fooled in '08 and I'm VERY disappointed ...
Edited on Thu Sep-08-11 12:00 AM by democrat2thecore
Edit to add: that this is not the first or second or third or fourth or 35th disappointment. The hits just keep on comin'.
Flip-Flop has a new picture in the dictionary and it's all so very, very sad. I worked hard in '08 in Iowa, I gave big bucks...I was fooled. If I had a primary option - I'd work hard again for them. Obama has shown me that he is NOT to be trusted.

I still haven't ruled out the possibility that Obama, at this late date, will pull an LBJ and halt his campaign. I fear he will drag down both houses of Congress to huge, landslide defeats. If it gets much worse - it's the only honorable thing to do.
