Top Republican urges no boycott of Obama speech
Source: Yahoo News

US House Speaker John Boehner urged fellow Republicans not to boycott President Barack Obama's jobs speech on Thursday and said he hoped for "common ground" with the White House on boosting the economy.

"He is the president of the United States, and I believe that all members ought to be here," said Boehner. "As an institution, the president's coming at our invitation. We ought to be respectful, and we ought to welcome him."

But the speaker declined to say whether he could endorse any of the proposals the White House has previewed ahead of the address, saying "it's important for us to wait and listen to what the president has to outline."

"In my case, I'm going to be looking for where's the common ground, what is it that we can agree on. We know that the two parties aren't going to agree on everything. But the American people want us to find common ground," he said.

8. You think Boner asking them not to Boycott is really going to have an effect
on the craziest of them? O no I expect a good number not to show up still.

Since most of the who say they won't show already look, and act douchey, they won't care. Joe Walsh is right on the top of that group!

2. Even if they don't boycott the speech
if every damn one of them shows up, I can pretty much guarrantee that they will obstruct any proposal Obama has to offer.

17. Maybe Boner's saying "let's not boycott" is a signal to the American people
Edited on Thu Sep-08-11 02:00 PM by TwilightGardener
that Obama's speech is SO not worth listening to, that even members of Congress won't bother--but he's going to ask his members to heroically sit through it anyway.

"Cause Toni Morrison called him the first black President and they believed her, instead of their own lying eyes?

20. hes probably going to fellate the GoP some more
and boner wants everyone to see it!
I seriously doubt here will be ANYTHING even remotely progressive in that speech.
I will be VERY happy if i'm wrong.
But sadly...every time I take a pragmatic view it's generally rewarded.
I can't wait for us to get a real democrat in the white house again... one who will fight for the average person!

9. Common ground? Am I confused or hasnt Obama been willing to compromise with them yet they kept
rebuffing him time after time and calling him things like a socialist and blaming him for the economy still not recovering after they (the republicans) were the ones that largely were to blame for tanking it in the first place.

I don't think we have seen the last of the "You Lie!" type shenanigans. Republicans have zero respect for the office of the President of the United States. You can bet, someone will say or do something that will be the talk of FOX and Friends for the entire next week.
