527 surge takes Kerry past Bush (Since 1/1/04, Dems outraise Bush 2-1)
Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) and his Democratic allies have raised almost twice as much money as the Bush-Cheney campaign so far this year, according to recent government filings.

The data show that despite the fears of many Democrats, their White House nominee likely will not be significantly hurt by his funding disparity compared to President Bush this election year. The figures also call into question the effectiveness of campaign-finance reform and whether it has in fact wrung special-interest money out of politics.

Twenty-one of the largest Democratic-allied 527 groups — named after a section of the tax code — raised nearly $57 million in the first three months of this year, according to reports filed last week with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and sorted by fundraising watchdog groups such as PoliticalMoneyLine.com and the Center for Public Integrity.

They've got enough.

5. You're wrong, the Repugs need a lot more money
Bush spent $49.5 million so far and it hasn't given him any boost in the polls, or in his approval rating.

2. Yeah, This Is Terrific News!
Add to it that Bush is burning his money like crazy and only has a minor bump to show for it, well, you get the picture...

3. But its not enough
ACT, Moveon, etc. will never be as effective as John Kerry for President. Both the Presidential campaign and the DNC need hard money contributions, desperately.

8. Well, he spent $25 million more than he earned last month
Which means that at this rate, Bush's 2004 reelection campaign will go bankrupt in January, 2005.

10. Is that why I'm still seeing 10 to 20 times the Bush ads....

...on TV even after they "gave up " their latest campaigns?

527 groups do not garner the same respect for their ads as the candidate's own ads do.

I call Bullsh*t on this.

Kerry needs direct money now!

15. Yes it does
It factor's in all 527s. It does not, however, faction in the $150 million Bush had before January 1. Nor does it factor in 501(c)4s etc. that the GOP will turn to. But it is nevertheless a really good sign.

13. wow that is great news
I'll be sure to contribute more to Kerry's campaign this month. I think it is wise not to believe all of these polls being issued. If contributions are twice what Bush's are, that is a sign of changing times!

19. I guess
Take Back the Media.com should become a 527 - we just ain't making it on t-shirt and other donations.

over 50 million bucks floating around out there and we have mortgaged our home to fight this Regime.

it's taking its toll.. if it wasn't for one of our bigger angels, we'd be toast.

still grateful for all the help we've received from our DU pals and others
