Guantanamo challenge at US court
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/3641899.stm

The US Supreme Court is considering whether 600 prisoners held at the US military base in Cuba can be tried in civilian rather than military courts.

Lawyers for two former and two current inmates argue that their clients should have access to the US court system.

If successful, it will allow them - and others - to argue that their detention at Guantanamo Bay is illegal.

2. US is violating Geneva Convention
The US has been in violation of the Geneva Convention for over two years in the treatment of the POWs in Cuba. There should had been hearings and these detainees should have been accorded POW status.

The concept that there is a legal loophole where these detainees have no rights is simply wrong. A number of international organizations have condemned the treatment of the detainees in Cuba as being in violation of international law and the Geneva convention. There is merit to these attacks.
