1. In 2004 the Wash Post revealed "Cheney Authorized Shooting Down Planes" on 9/11
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A50745-2004Jun17.html

At 10:39 on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, Vice President Cheney, in a bunker beneath the White House, told Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld in a videoconference that he had been informed earlier that morning that hijacked planes were approaching Washington.

"Pursuant to the president's instructions, I gave authorization for them to be taken out," Cheney told Rumsfeld, who was at the Pentagon. Informing Rumsfeld that the fighter pilots had received orders to fire, Cheney added, "It's my understanding they've already taken a couple of aircraft out."

5. The tenth anniversary of 9/11 is NOT a good time to act weird on a plane.
I indeed hope this isn't some sort of terror attack.

(How the hell do you get three people in one of those tiny bathrooms any way?)

16. 3 really thin Americans on one airline?
What are the odds? At least two of them must've been French.

Were they kamikaze fighter jets? We all know how our military is unprepared for these kind of events.

9. Updates indicate...idiots.
...you can look at the original link for Twitter updates. I tried looking all over the
place for this (CNN, USAToday, LA Times) and nothing.

American Flight Attendants sometimes seem to be on a "hair trigger" (and that was even before 9/11).

They landed and headed to the gate.

Particularly, how long it took the jets to intercept the flight.

15. My 14 yr old daughter's on a United flight right now. Stories like this are making me want to heave.
My stomach's in knots. I wish people wouldn't make jokes. I am literally sick to my stomach with fear already. Irrational? Perhaps but until she lands, the reality is this day IS forever more going to be tough.

18. I will say this...relax...and here is why...
Nothing similar to the 9/11 hijackings will EVER happen on a U.S. airliner ever again.

Cockpits are now heavily reinforced and under NO, NEVER, EVER circumstances will those
doors be opened ever again, no matter what goes on in that cabin. Period.

Policies and procedures 10 years ago for cockpit entry were sloppy. Now they are not.

19. Not only that
but the other 100 to 200+ people on the plane will not let a few people take it over with box cutters or finger nail files. In fact someone trying that today would be very lucky to not be thrown from the plane around 10,000 feet.

22. There had been a lot more planes hijacked before
9/11 than after.

The fact that only one plane showed any defense to people armed with box cutters blows my mind.

Planes had been hijacked for decades.

There were very stringent procedures for hijacked planes prior to 9/11 - including transponders, alarms all of which should have set off
a massive response.

These failed on every plane, for no reason.

So whatever has been put in place could just as easily fail - for no reason.

24. "The fact that only one plane showed any defense to people armed with box cutters blows my mind."
Only the passengers on flight 77 and 93 had reason to believe that their hijackers were on suicide missions.

While there was no evidence that the passengers on flight 77 attempted to retake the plane, there is also no evidence that they did not try.

23. Seriously.
There's a reason I wear steel-toed Doc Marten's when I fly. It's not because they're fabulously fashionable and oh-so comfortable. One reason is because if someone is going to take my life on a plane, I'm going to try and kick their skull in first. I don't think you even have to be a tough guy. I think you just have to be human at that point. (The other is because if there's ever an incident on the plane, you don't want something breaking your foot and hindering your escape and the escape of many people behind you).

Edited on Sun Sep-11-11 05:54 PM by Bosonic
which is why there is such nervousness about multiple people meeting in toilets (where presumably they could pool their components, reconstruct the bomb and then detonate it).
