Shia pilgrims shot dead in western Iraq

A group of 22 Shia pilgrims have been found shot dead in Iraq's western Anbar province, say Iraqi officials.

The men had reportedly been travelling by bus to visit a shrine in Syria when they were held up at a checkpoint in a remote desert area.

Officials said gunmen had ordered the women to leave the bus then driven the men to another location where they killed them.

Attacks on Shia pilgrims have claimed hundreds of lives in recent months.

1. Al Anbar is overwhelmingly Sunni--Fallujah is in that province.
This isn't good. This is "grudge time" killing....

2. when we leave Iraq....
....it will be well on it's way to becoming one of the finest Republican-built states in the Middle East, a showcase of chimp-style nation-building, democracy and freedom....

....but there's no need to compromise and be as tolerant and democratic as our fearless Republicans, plenty of time to do that in the future....and in the future, Iraqis will certainly want to show us their undying gratitude with unlimited oil contracts....hip, hip, hooray!

3. when we leave...
it will fracture into three regions- Shia, Sunni, and Kurd- just like was predicted when Iraq was formed after WWI.
