Kerry campaign provides some military records
Kerry campaign provides some military records

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Amid questions about his military records, John Kerry's campaign on Tuesday provided documentation of Vietnam War injuries that included shrapnel wounds to his arms, legs and buttocks that earned him three Purple Hearts.

Kerry spokesman Michael Meehan said the campaign was in the process of compiling the rest of Kerry's naval record and planned to begin posting it on the Internet by day's end. Kerry said all his military records are available to the public during an appearance Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Meehan said the Massachusetts senator and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee requested a copy of his record from the Navy last month and received roughly 150 pages last week. He said the campaign was in the process of scanning images of the documents Tuesday and they would be posted on Kerry's Web site.

Conservatives, talk radio and some newspapers editorials have questioned whether Kerry was deserving of the three Purple Hearts, fueling questions about his Navy service from 1966 to 1970 and the seriousness of his injuries.

7. How about that boil on..
Rush's ass that apparrently kept him from even being able to serve?

Disgusting of them to attack a war hero on his service record while covering for all of the Chickenhawks in their own party who couldn't be bothered to serve and didn't even care enough about the men who did to protest.

5. It's my understanding that they are looking for bad reports from superiors
Insubordination, disrespect, that sort of stuff. Caught that from that Wolf guy on CNN. I think they are going to try to use the unpatriotic theme, sort of try to run on his anti-war stance.

Hopefully it will backfire, except for the diehard warmongering types out there. They got Kerry to back off on his "atrocities" statement on MTP. Personally, I think that was a mistake on Kerry's part. On CNN they had that O'Neil guy that debated Kerry on the Cabat show. They are trying to open old wounds of the Viet Nam vets.

12. Questioning the PH's is contemptible
loathesome and unpatriotic. Not showing up for duty is worse.
I think the time is right to finally go there. Not Kerry, but others.

16. right he said the words were honest
and when russert tried to claim that the things he said were proven not to be true, kerry corrected him and said much of it HAS been proven true. the only thing he did was say he could have used different words and taken into account the feelings of others. and there is nothing wrong with that.

Kerry Campaign Provides Some Military Records
Documents Include Injury Information
John Kerry's campaign has begun posting records of his military service on his Web site.

Conservatives, talk radio and some newspaper editorials have questioned whether Kerry was deserving of three Purple Hearts given for service in Vietnam. Such comments have fueled questions about his Navy service and the seriousness of his injuries.

Records provided to The Associated Press show Kerry suffered shrapnel wounds when his boat came under fire in February 1969 and again in March when a mine detonated.

Documents show Kerry was returned to active duty after treatment.

The campaign has not been able to locate a similar report for Kerry's first Purple Heart, but medical records show he was treated for shrapnel wounds in 1968.
