U.S. Chamber of Commerce ups lobbying for Keystone XL Oil Pipeline
Source: UPI

DETROIT, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- The U.S. Chamber of Commerce said it has launched a lobbying effort in seven states for government approval of the $13 billion Keystone XL oil pipeline project.

Matt Letourneau, director of communications and media at the Chamber's Institute for 21st Century Energy, said Wednesday an "education and engagement" campaign had begun in Midwestern states that would be most affected by the 1,660-mile underground pipeline, called the Keystone XL pipeline, that would connect oil wells in Alberta, Canada, with refineries and delivery stations in Illinois, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas, The Detroit News reported Thursday.

Although opposed by environmental groups for fueling the country's dependence on foreign oil, the project is expected to create 3,000 construction jobs in Michigan by 2020, the Chamber said.

The U.S. State Department has indicated it will decide on the merits of the pipeline by the end of the year.

1. if it's the "Institute for 21st Century Energy" why, then

9. there is nothing US about the chamber of commerce
when they take money from any foreign corporation-more interested in lobbying for any foreign business over the well being of the american people and the country--no there is nothing US or american about them. Will support any candidate who will go with big business against the people and against smaller american businesses.

6. They lobbied for free trade and it is working, liberals are now for free trade
They will end up getting everything they want http://www.uschamber.com/sites/default/files/110905_jobs_letter.pdf
and Democrats will march to help them get it http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=5009866&mesg_id=5009982

I just gave up trying to argue against free trade on a democratic board, it has become the religeon of choice here, I just don't know what to say about how shocked I am about that.

I think perhaps I need to find an ACTUAL Democratic board.
