House Democrats are condemning a Republican-sanctioned $1 million spending increase to defend the Defense of Marriage Act.

In a news release Tuesday, Democratic Reps. Robert Brady (Pa.), Charles Gonzalez (Texas) and Zoe Lofgren (Calif.) criticized their GOP colleagues for increasing the contract with the lawyer hired to defend DOMA from $500,000 to $1.5 million.

In May, Bancroft PLLC lawyer Paul Clement was hired to represent Congress in defense of DOMA, which bars the federal government from recognizing same-sex marriages.

“We were disappointed to learn that House Republicans will spend even more money on defending the indefensible and unconstitutional Defense of Marriage Act,” the Democratic lawmakers said of the proposed tripling of the contract.

1. Out of one side of their mouths, "Quit wasting taxpayer money", and out of the other, "Pay attorneys
more."

4. Republicans are always bashing lawyers, too. As if they don't all have at least 2 themselves.
They just hate to be sued over civil rights violations, FOIA requests, etc.

They just hate to be called on their own lawbreaking.

The fewer people who know the law, the better for them.

3. So many ideological "consulting fees" to choose from with the GOP.

And we wonder why government is able to be painted as "ineffective" because there's less money spread around.

5. So, what offset did they make? A cut in the Majority Leader's office budget?
Bwahahahaha, I kid! Of course, this is found money and doesn't have to be accounted for at all in Republicanland, a fact-free zone where matters of conscience, consistency and shame go to die of malnutrition and willful neglect.
