GOP files complaint against Nelson (D-Ne)
Source: Omaha World Herald

By Robynn Tysver

Blitzes of Washington-funded advertisements that feature U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson defending his record have drawn fire from the Nebraska Republican Party.

State GOP officials allege the television and radio spots are part of Nelson's re-election efforts for 2012 and violate federal election laws that limit how closely candidates and independent groups can work together on campaign media buys.

They have filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission.

Democrats responded Tuesday that the ads are not campaign-related and that federal law allows both Republicans and Democrats to run "issue" ads 90 days before an election without restrictions.

1. WTF! Perry has six SuperPacs---one of them filed saying it was designed to get him elected.
GOP is just pissed because the SCOTUS did not rule that only Republicans could have SuperPacs.

Incumbents find it easier to raise money.

2. Always a double standard. Hence, the acronym. IOKIYAR.
That said, we could use more enforcement in the campaign money abuse area on both sides.

Remember McCain spending his wife's money in 2007-08 and, IIRC, using her plane or having her pay for charters? Something was wrong, I do remember that.

6. Great memory - I wasn't sure if he did - so I googled
Here is an article - http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/mccain_saved_money_legally_on_charter_jets/

Additional hypocrisy is that in 2004, both his Democratic opponents and the Republicans made an issue of Teresa Heinz Kerry NOT being able to give her husband more than the amount any person could. (No other politician has ever been held to that standard.)

I don't know how much of McCain's campaign was self financed. I do know that Hillary Clinton loaned her campaign far more than total she earned on her book and her job. No one cared that the bulk of the money was earned by Bill Clinton. (In fairness, the Kerrys kept their assets separate, unlike the others.)

5. I wonder what issue Nelson could be running an ad for that Republicans don't like?
I usually see him siding with Republioans at every opportunity.. Strange Days are upon us I guess.
