Bloomberg blasts Wall Street protests as bad for the city
Source: New York Post

“They’re trying to take away the tax base we have, because none of this is good for tourism,” Hizzoner huffed about the thousands of activists in Zuccotti Park downtown.

<...>

“If the jobs they’re trying to get rid of in the city -- the people that work in finance, which is a big part of our economy -- go away, we’re not going to have any money to pay our municipal employees or clean the parks or anything else,” the mayor said.

<...>

“There’s a general presence of incivility down there, but worst of all are the drums and the shouting,” moaned Marsha, who said her apartment overlooks Zuccotti Park. “What about my rights to use that park?”

Bloomberg quickly chimed in, saying that while “the First Amendment protects their right to say something ... we couldn’t agree more .”

Speaking of drums, the drumbeat has started: "these protesters are costing us millions"--heard it in reference to Boston on the local news last night...

28. But of course they are, that's the point! If they were good for the city it wouldn't be useful.

3. NYC's tax base. Tourism to a certain extent but he meant taxing the obscene profits
made by Wall Street no matter how they do it.

4. And Stage 3 of the people opposed start
First stage is ignore
Second is to dismiss and ridicule
Stage three is "It's bad for business." and "What about me? What about Raven?"

To Bloomberg and that ilk, I quote from 1776 (Musical), "There's more to this than a filthy purse string."

30. Stage 4 will be insinuations that they are terrorists or communists
I suppose the people who stormed the Bastille were bad for tourism too. But these things happen, if the people are pushed hard enough, long enough.

7. Idiotic
Almost comically so. Bloomberg sees a solid tax base going forward based on CDO's and average stock holding times of 12 seconds? Wall St. has given itself over to the scam and activity masquerading as productivity. People have been cleaned out and those who have anything to invest, the "average" investor, have also gotten fed up. The contraction is already under way, and Wall St. has no one to blame but itself. Wake up, Mr. Mayor.

13. Tax revenues are not constitutional protected rights.
Peacefully assembling and protesting _are_ constitutional protected.

It is not only a right, it is a duty to protest the wrongs we see in this country, until those wrongs stop.

31. Memo to Mayor Bloomberg: Tourists like me want to come to NYC to see the protesters!
If they're still there when I take my next day trip to the Big Apple in a month or so, I'm definitely doing down to Wall St. to see them.

And, gee, Mike ... I'd love to see a Broadway show instead, but I'm one of the 99 percent that's getting screwed by the top 1 percent, and I can't afford it!

(Except general rush tickets, where they're offered. I saw Frank Langella in a play two weeks ago for $22!)
