EPA orders Enbridge to do more oil spill cleanup on Kalamazoo River

A year after a massive oil spill in the Kalamazoo River, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency reported there were still pockets of submerged oil covering about 200 acres along the path.

In a letter Thursday, the EPA told Enbridge Energy more work needs to be done this fall and winter than the agency originally required.

Enbridge is responsible for a July 2010 spill of at least 800,000 gallons of crude oil from its pipeline into Talmadge Creek and the Kalamazoo River.

The oil spill reached within 80 miles of Lake Michigan.
