Abdullah expects OIC to endorse our stand

Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is expecting tomorrow’s Organisation of the Islamic Conference’s special meeting on the Middle East to endorse Malaysia’s stand on hostilities in Palestine and Iraq.

The Prime Minister said it would be an achievement if the meeting supported Malaysia's position as stated in letters he wrote to United Nations Secre-tary-General Kofi Annan and the Security Council's five permanent members on the two issues.

"If the views stated in my letter can be endorsed tomorrow, this can be considered a positive action." He said he wrote the letters not only in his capacity as Malaysia's Prime Minister, but also as chairman of both the 10th OIC summit and the Non-Aligned Movement.

"The world leaders realise my relationship with these two organisations," he said at a Press conference here when asked on the OIC's plans for concrete action.

In his letters, Abdullah said the international community should give the UN a central role in Iraq, while for Palestine, all parties should stick to the proposed "road map" for peace towards the establishment of two independent states of Palestine and Israel.
