NBC/WSJ poll: Cain now leads GOP pack
Source: MSNBC

Fueled by Tea Party supporters, conservatives and high-interest GOP primary voters, former Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain now leads the race for the Republican presidential nomination, according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

And in yet another sign of how volatile the Republican race has been with less than three months until the first nominating contests, the onetime frontrunner, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, has plummeted to third place, dropping more than 20 percentage points since late August.

“Cain is the leader ... That’s the story,” said Democratic pollster Peter D. Hart, who conducted this survey with Republican pollster Bill McInturff.

I love it that they get to choose among a woman, a black guy, a flip-flopping Mormon, an "illegral immigrant sympathizer," an opponent of the war on drugs, a denigrator of the Teabag Party, and a couple of other lunatics.

14. Ummm, Cain wouldn't be surging in Republican polls...
..if they didn't like him and plan to vote for him. In fact, Cain is most loved by the furthest right of the wing nuts.

These people will have absolutely no problem voting for a black guy if he is a conservative. None.

They are actively seeking minorities to be their standard bearers because they know demographically, they won't be able to win state and national elections if they don't. They think people like Cain, Rubio, etc, are their ticket to winning chunks of the minority vote.

19. That would be difficult for some of them, I think.
But the reason why this is good news is that if you have a base that's in the "hold your nose and vote for Candidate X", then that is FAAAAAAAAAB-BYOOOO-LUSSSS!!! It will play to our advantage if the enemy is dispirited. If they're not fired up, they won't work their asses off. They'll be half-hearted and apathetic about their candidate. If they're fired up about it, then that's when we worry, because that's when they're ready to go to BATTLE, when they won't miss voting for ANYTHING, when they'll nag all their friends and haul 'em in by the hair to make them vote, and they'll give til it hurts, and hurts badly. If this bunch were really fired up, they'd be working like dogs NOW.

And yet you have the big money guys holding back, the kkkarl rove machine upset and confused ('cause they don't like the guy who looks like he's their frontrunner), they're still looking for Mr. Goodbar as it were, they can't find anybody suitable who represents THEIR toxic, narrow-minded, greedy, selfish, ill-informed, and myopic views (thank GOD!), the ones who do are absolutely unelectable and their savior-du-jour (rick perry) is sinking like a stone. And nobody makes their heart go pitty-pat.

Which is GOOOOOO-OOOOOOOOD!!!

If their side is demoralized and their love remains unrequited, then we have a shot! Yes, the disappointed and left-behind-at-the-altar crowd will drag their sorry pathetic whiny asses to the polls, but they'll do it half-heartedly, and they won't ALL do it, or they'll just leave the presidential slot blank. Or they'll write in somebody else - whoever they wanted to vote for in the first place. Or maybe they'll cause a third-party challenge by some ego that fancies attention! And THAT would be just ECSTASY!!! Divide 'em further and we stay in! It will provoke (and maybe some of us can help that along a little) an attitude in their hearts of - "Aw dammit, just fuck it. What's the use? It doesn't matter."

Hey, I hate to be ruthless here, but this is politics so you have to be if you want to win or even survive. And I WANT their side dispirited! Less of 'em will work their hearts out, less of 'em will turn out to vote, and less of 'em will be able to impact the election in any positive way. It'll be a drag on the whole GOP movement.

And look at who they've got - from the Cupboard-Is-Bare Department:

romney - flip-flops, Wall Streeter/CEO (increasingly bad, as OWS gains momentum and luster), Mormon (and calimary's own personal peeve: he was shitty to his dog!!!! The LUGGAGE was kept safely and comfortably in the car with the wife and kids on a driving vacation. The dog was stuck in a fucking crate strapped to the fucking top of the fucking car!!!!! romney even defends it, saying the dog LOVES to be out in the wind. Well, if so - why did ol' mitty-boy have to hose the whole car off, AND the dog, the next time they stopped for gas? And probably put the dog back up on top of the car dripping wet! :grr:  )

cain - what very large numbers of these people hate most is the idea that there's a black guy in the Oval Office and he's not the janitor. If you think they're not racist, look at the shit the GOP collectively has given michael steele. cain's a CEO but his 999 thing is simplistic and unrealistic, and will have some holes punched in it - michele bachmann has now seen to that one, especially with the fundy wackos! Besides, there's the skin color thing.

perry - CLEARLY NOT ready for prime time! Let's see... where to begin? N-word Ranch, the damn stars-n-bars on the Texas license plate, shitty debate performance, sounds/reminds too much of bush (these yahoos won't mind but the rest of the country WILL), NO jobs programs or even concrete ideas - and he had time to prepare for a debate that was well-defined, ahead of time, as being about jobs and the economy, that "delightful" secession tease, and so much more - including how bad things really are for people in the state of Texas when you start looking at the actual statistics. What sells in Texas does NOT automatically wow 'em elsewhere. Besides, if he was SOOOO shrewd at politics (I've heard that attribute trotted out frequently to offset his obvious shortcomings in the intellect department), how come he has all this time to prepare for a well-labeled ECONOMY/JOBS debate and he doesn't seize that opportunity to steal the headlines the next morning by trotting out some sexy-sounding jobs program? This could have been a gimme, and would have reversed his downward spiral. And he was empty-handed/empty-headed - except for all the "um's" and "uh's" spilling out of his mouth.

The rest of 'em? Seriously?

They've got nuthin'. And it's gotta play in the WHOLE COUNTRY, not just the Bible-thumber belt. And they don't have ANYONE who can do that. Besides, the wild card this time is liable to be Occupy Wall Street. It's starting now. Who knows what it'll touch off by the time we get into full-on election season, and how much it will have influenced public opinion? Maybe a LOT. 'Cause the OWS people are gaining ground, spreading all over the country, and they're gaining sympathy. It will be interesting to see how much influence they exert and how much they grow - because THAT could be the key to the election.

Especially early ones. From what I read Romney has good organizations in places like Iowa and New Hampshire while Cain not so much.

16. If Cain or Perry or Bachmann were the candidate...it would be total fail.
It would simply take one debate for the majority of Americans to see the crazy.

HOWEVER, it does scare me that Mittens could be the candidate. THAT would be a problem, cult and all.

The white GOPBagger types are so about getting the Black man out of THEIR White House, that I'm
sure that they would vote Mittens in...no matter his agenda or any other kind of baggage. Period.

They are angry...bitter...STUPID and would just want PBO out.

20. Cain is going to have some splainen to do
when people realize that his 9-9-9 plan will raise the taxes on median income earners and lower income earners drastically. These are the people who live paycheck to paycheck and with a 9% flat income tax and a 9% sales tax they are going to be paying 18% of their income to the federal government, meanwhile it will be a drastic tax cut for thee wealthy.

28. Watch for a Mittens - Cain
ticket. That could be fairly tough. Cain brings in the fiscal far-right and assuages the fundies; he is not at the top of the ticket ( which keeps the real racists sort of still in line); they can do the "we might disagree but as businessmen we can agree that blah blah" to make up after the primary campaign; and, as someone else mentioned upthread, it is an attempt to cut into the African-American ( in this case) voters, and particularly when coupled with other candidates like Rubio it is an attemp to broaden their core. There isn't that much of a swing to play with and this juggles theirs and cuts the Dems.

It is a good cop bad cop. or in this case, pretty looney and completely looney
