Iran Broadens Counter-Rhetoric on Alleged Plot, Calling It a Joke
Source: NY Times

The government of Iran on Thursday escalated its rebuttal of American criminal charges that it was behind a murder conspiracy in Washington, calling the claims that Iranian agents had plotted to kill the Saudi ambassador with the help of a Mexican drug gang so ludicrous that even politicians and press in the United States were expressing skepticism about such a scheme.

The latest rejoinder added to the response of Iran’s top leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and his subordinates, who said on Wednesday that the suspected plot was concocted in Washington to distract Americans from their own traumatic economic problems, highlighted by the Occupy Wall Street movement.

At the same time, however, Saudi Arabia, which is deeply suspicious of Iran, suggested that it accepted the American accusations as fact, and Britain said it was taking the accusations seriously. The Saudi foreign minister, Saud al-Faisal, told reporters at a news conference in Vienna that “this dastardly act reflects the policies of Iran.” The Saudi government has not yet decided whether to withdraw its ambassador from Tehran in protest, he said.

In London, the British foreign secretary, William Hague, told the House of Commons that the suspected plot “would appear to constitute a major escalation in Iran’s sponsorship of terrorism outside its borders,” British news agencies reported. He added that the British government was “in close touch with the U.S. authorities and will work to agree an international response, along with the U.S., the rest of the E.U. and Saudi Arabia.”

1. I saw this movie with Bush and Blair in the cast. It was bad enough and this remake won't be better.

4. Methinks they doth protest too much. Lends some credibility
After all, Ahmadinejad is also blaming the "evil jews" about the plot a few hours ago too http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=124x368473

You can cry about "False Flag Operations" or any other 9/11 truther claim that you want. However, just because the plan was stupid or the men were idiots does not lessen the damage that these men could have caused if they went on with the plans. For every 1 unabomber, there are 100 elmer fudds.

10. Two words: yellow cake
...if that undertaking had been real it could also have done a lot of damage despite the complete idiocy of such a 'credible' plan.
Well, it wasn't real.

There is not a shred of credible evidence for this alleged plot.
But of course they wouldn't let us know due to 'national security reasons'.
If there is, I'd like to see it. But I strongly suspect I'd be reminded of one Mr Powell.

Currently the US government has as much credibility as the Iranian government when it comes to foreign policy.

12. I haven't see any legit evidence........
....that this was either a false flag, or a lie.

However, the possibility that members of certain factions of the U.S. government may have aided in the conspiracy, cannot be ignored by any means.

2. The timing....
The timing of this False Flag operation indicates one or two things...

1) distract from the OWS campaign
2) TPTB have enough air drones to, basically, invade any country they want and control it against the native population (remember that the side that controls the air war controls the ground war)

3. Who exactly
is trying to push a war with Iran. Calm down, take a deep breath and analyze all the facts before hyperventilating. Cheeze, we don't want another Iraq.

9. "Cheeze, we don't want another Iraq."
Who do you think wanted Iraq?

Maybe Halliburton/KBR, IAP Worldwide, Bechtel, Fluor, Parsons, Dyncorp, Triple Canopy, Blackwater/Xe, KACI, Royal Dutch Shell, or General Dynamics, perhaps?

Did you think these companies just disappeared, never to be heard from again?

Are you that naive?

This is a problem now for the US. Their credibility is shot (see Colin Powell / U.N.) Especially now that Obama has basically approved of lying to spur on war for profit by not prosecuting the war criminals who did that on behalf of the US 10 years ago.

The United States won't be ever trusted again to produce "evidence". The only nations that will "believe" the evidence are those that have a vested interest in kowtowing to the US for corporate blessings. And by nations I mean the corporate controlled political rulers, not the average citizen of those countries. Iran is correct, the USA's word at least, is a joke now.

6. The tail wagging the Dog
It's just another convenient bright and shiny object to distract people from the real problems in the US and the World.

We now return you to the real program in progress.
