Walmart heiress arrested Spends birthday in jail (Sam's daughter)
Edited on Thu Oct-13-11 05:45 PM by spotbird
Source: Weatherford Democrat

WEATHERFORD — Walmart heiress and Parker County resident Alice Walton spent the last hour of her 62nd birthday in the Parker County Jail Friday night after being arrested by a Texas Highway Patrol trooper on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

.......

According to information from the Springdale District Court in Arkansas, Walton was convicted of driving under the influence in a 1998 case.

Walton paid a several hundred dollar fine in that case, according to other news reports.

......

Previous news accounts state Walton was also involved in a 1989 wreck in Arkansas that resulted in the death of a 50-year-old woman.

Strangest story of the week, the laws don't typically apply to these people. She must have been processed before the Wheels of Wealth could rescue her. The article did say that the arrest was not posted until the newspaper called, as all other arrests are, so she did get minimal special treatment. It's amazing the photo was posted at all. She does not look like the 10th most wealthy person in the world, that's for sure.

Next question:

Why would someone who can afford anything decide to risk killing another person?

3. She refused the breathalyzer.
She knew the presumption was better than the fact. I wonder if they do those videos in Texas, it would be interesting to see how incapacitated she was.

Guess she'll be using a chauffeur for a while.

She has no excuse. She could afford to have a fully-stocked car, 24 hrs a day.

5. The rules don't apply to her
She's probably been pulled over many times and got off swiftly. It is truly incredible that she had to spend the night in jail. Where were the lawyers on retainer? Someone will have to answer for this.

7. I wonder if she has a conscience... or if, perhaps, her conscience is at play...
No way to know, of course, but if she were self-aware enough to know the suffering that the family business has wrought worldwide (rather than excusing it under some "progress" or "it's just business" justification), she might just be using alcohol as her attempt to self-medicate/escape...

Just makes one wonder....

15. She's not guilty.
Edited on Thu Oct-13-11 07:23 PM by JohnnyRingo
Not yet.

She's been arrested, but we don't know if she was intoxicated. With no breath test we have no physical evidence of how much (if any) she had to drink.

I'm with "eat the rich" as much as anyone here, but due process still applies to them. Most people here have proven themselves unfit to sit on her jury.

On edit, I don't mean to shake an accusing finger at posters, but sometimes we all get a bit fervent in these divisive times. Certainly the same comments have been made elsewhere about the protesters who were maced and arrested. They were also wrong in assigning guilt.

27. "She's not guilty."
That's an interesting post. True as you state but I'd say the facts are enough to make an informed decision as to the possible outcome for most other people in the same situation.

"Most people here have proven themselves unfit to sit on her jury." If I were to sit on her jury I think I would have enough presence of mind to hear all the evidence and then based upon the arresting officer's testimony and her lawyer's cross examination I believe I could vote yea or nay on a verdict. I am sure she would not take the stand in her own defense. Because someone makes a snap decision on this board would not necessarily be unfit to sit on this jury. Could you tell me what potential juror does not form some kind of an opinion about any crime that hits the media about a famous person?

However, there is no way any Walton would ever have to go into court as a defendant.

30. You're probably right about her not standing testimony.
She'll likely only face a judge for sentencing on a plea bargain for reckless-op, but that's what would happen to any other 1st time offender under similar circumstances. She won't have to suffer as much as a working stiff for the mandatory license suspension because of her privileged lifestyle.

Still, I don't like to presume guilt. She may well have been under the legal limit but didn't want to take the chance. That happens.

40. She has a history of drunk driving
It's her third arrest for DWI. She killed a person in the first DWI (1989). She blew .16, double the legal limit, that time.

When she was arrested the second time she yelled at the arresting officer "I'm Alice Walton, bitch! (1998)"

They also treated the third arrest as a "first offense." That, in itself, should be a crime.

37. “There’s no conspiracy,” Fowler said.
No one said there was a conspiracy, idiot. What is implied, and what is a well known fact of life, is that extremely wealthy people usually receive special treatment under these circumstances. We are all conditioned from birth to genuflect to wealth and political power. 'Law enforcement' itself exists to isolate the wealthy from the 'rabble'.

Of all the propaganda memes we're exposed to on a daily basis, 'conspiracy theory' is probably the most irritating to me.

snip: "Typically, jail book-in information and a head shot picture are published on the Parker County Jail website within hours of an arrest in Parker County. However, Walton’s arrest information and mug shot did not appear to be published on the Parker County Jail website until a call was made to the Parker County Sheriff’s Office from a Democrat reporter Wednesday afternoon."
