Naomi Wolf Arrested While Occupy Wall Street Protests Cuomo
Source: Gothamist

While members of Occupy Wall Street were outside a Soho event that Governor Cuomo was attending—to protest his refusal to reinstate the "millionaires tax"— the feminist author and activist Naomi Wolf was arrested.

Firedoglake's Kevin Gosztola Tweeted, "Naomi Wolf shows up to inform protesters confronting Cuomo they do not need permit for a megaphone." Police claim that protesters can't be outside Skylight Soho (at 275 Hudson Street) because they need a street activities permit. New Yorkist reported, "Lt someone w/Manhattan South Precinct say people marching are obstructing pedi traffic. Naomi wolf talking, he said: "tell it to the judge!'" ANIMAL NEW YORK further explains, "NYPD told Naomi Wolf that they were going to arrest her for marching in front of Skylight Soho in violation of the event space's SAP permit." And so they arrested her.

6. At this point, I really don't think we HAVE a constitution.
Unless we agree to enforce it, it's really just some worthless paper.

Tell me: Who in government can you name that still believes it's the highest law of the land?

7. Hmmm...that's a good question

There are a few: Bernie Sanders, Kucinich. Other than that, you're correct when you say it's virtually non-enforceable at this point.

And that's what the 99% are protesting.

It's time for us to remind the pigs and the plutocrats that we take the Constitution seriously and I believe that's what the Occupy movement is all about - occupying the public spaces as our Constitution guarantees us we have the right to do.

The actions of the cops who are pigs (and they aren't all pigs) don't weaken the Law of the Land. Their actions point out how badly we need it.

3. Wow, I can't think of a single one of those that isn't violated on a regular basis.
Our track record sucks on the 4th and 5th amendments too. But hey, you don't have to quarter soldiers in your home, so we've still got the third.

10. NAOMI WOLF ARRESTED IN NEW YORK
Source: Truthdig

Truthdig contributor Madison Shockley reports that the author and political consultant was arrested after leaving a Huffington Post event in lower Manhattan honoring New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Our contributor says Wolf joined protesters rallying in support of a “millionaires tax” the governor opposes.

Some witnesses on Twitter have said Wolf was arrested simply for confronting police on the sidewalk in front of the event.

21. and the movement keeps attempting to explain
to the cops "we're fighting for you." Maybe some of the cops think that if they are thuggish enough, they will be the ones to keep their jobs when it comes time for layoffs.

It reminds me when the banks were doing all of those major layoffs after introducing ATM--all those middle managers had the job of firing all of those employees, and after the deed was done, then most of them were fired.

14. Not a single bankster in prison
What a sad state of affairs. Not a single corporation is jail, although they are people too, polluting our air, water, and food, and stealing our resources through free speech (bribes) to public officials.

17. Occupy Wall St: Naomi Wolf condemns 'Stalinist' erosion of protest rights
The feminist author Naomi Wolf has criticised the erosion of the right to public protest in the United States after she was arrested alongside Occupy Wall Street demonstrators in New York.

Wolf was led away in handcuffs after addressing protesters outside an awards ceremony held to honour New York's governor, at which she was a guest.

The author had disputed claims by police that a permit granted to the event – organised by the Huffington Post website on Tuesday night – allowed them to clear the sidewalk outside the venue in the Soho district of Manhattan.

Inside, the New York state governor, Andrew Cuomo, was being presented with the "game-changer of the year" award by the Huffington Post. A group of protesters had arrived from the Occupy Wall Street group's camp in Zuccotti Park to demonstrate against his opposition to extending New York State's "millionaire's tax", and his support of the contentious process of extracting natural gas from shale, known as fracking.
