Wall Street rejects Dem fundraising

Published: Oct. 18, 2011 at 4:07 PM

NEW YORK, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- Wall Street lobbyists are telling Democrats they can't have it both ways: They can't support Occupy Wall Street protests and then ask for Wall Street cash.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee sent a recent e-mail calling on supporters to sign a petition backing the protests. Then livid banking executives called DCCC officials demanding answers, financial services lobbyists told Politico.

"Most Wall Street guys, they feel like they're going to be burned in effigy," Anthony Scaramucci told the newspaper. Scaramucci is a managing partner of SkyBridge Capital who gave to the Obama campaign in 2008. Now he is fundraising for Mitt Romney, and told Politico other moderate donors "fled from Obama in his support of the Wall Street protests."

Obama narrowly raised more Wall Street campaign funding in 2008 than Republican nominee Sen. John McCain of Arizona. But now Democrats are facing a particularly hard sell, the newspaper said.

"You can't have it both ways," one unnamed in-house financial services lobbyist told Politico. "It just makes it harder for people who are Democrats in New York, Boston, Chicago to on the one hand be demogagued and then be asked 'Hey, you can get your picture with the president for $30,000.' It doesn't square."

1. Fine. Unleash The Attorney General and Elizabeth Warren
or make Elizabeth Warren the AG. That'll learn them which side of their bread is buttered, both the banksters AND Washington's elite.

5. Yeah, but unfortunately the Right still has a well orchestrated plan to steal
the next election. They not only have the Evoting machines, but are now trying to pass State legislation to disenfranchise many voters.

18. They Get a Better Deal Than I Do
Edited on Tue Oct-18-11 11:33 PM by pmorlan1
I don't blame them. It's exactly how I feel when I'm asked to donate money to politicians who then turn around and pass laws that screw me over. At least the Wall Street lobbyists are still getting favorable legislative treatment even if the politicians are paying lip service to the protesters.

I'd like to see one man, one vote again and get rid of the more $ you donate the more clout you have.

The Democratic Party has to make a decision here and stop playing up to both sides.

Why do I think they're going to decide against us? Once they do, we're then officially disenfranchised, the lines are drawn, and this become a fight against the establishment.

25. Good, whoever thought this Movement would start working
this fast? Now, if Democrats USE this, in the current atmosphere where Wall Street is a dirty word to over 80% of the population, this could be the beginning of getting the money out of politics, which is the number one goal of the OWS Movement.

Dems by refusing to take their money, can then pound Republicans on every issue by accusing them, truthfully, of being against eg, Enviromental protection, because of their Corporate bosses.

If Dems are willing NOT to go begging for money from them, but instead make a public statement that they will not accept Corporate Funding they could win the next election. People are awake now, they know much more about Wall Street money in politics than they did just a few years ago, and the know, including Republicans, that it was that money that bought them the totally unpopular Bailouts, by a huge margin across Party lines.

And if the current crop of DLCers and others in the party who cannot live without Wall Street funding and once again, cave to their threats, then all of them should be primaried, and I bet they will be, this time with a lot more success since Wall St. will be a huge issue, and we should make sure it is, in the next election.

34. "You can't have it both ways"
You are quite right. You can't destroy the economy, lobby against any and all banking regulations, set things up so that everything is too big to fail and expect people who are barely making ends meet (or aren't) not to get angry.

No sir, you cannot have it both ways. You can't socialize losses and privatize profits and expect the people who are paying for your mistakes to sit quietly by forever and just take it.

37. Wall st is pumping money into Romney's campaign. Obama
has not shown enough reverence for Wall st. He's done good things for them(like saving their asses), but that was not enough for those spoiled brats. He offered some mild criticism back in his first year, and they have never gotten over that.
