L.A. officials approve jail measures to stop abuse

Los Angeles County officials approved two measures Tuesday aimed at tackling alleged inmate abuse by sheriff's deputies in the country's largest jail system.

One of the measures will see the creation of a seven-member oversight commission that would offer independent reviews of inmate complaints and look into the extent of inappropriate use of force in the jails.

"There has been a shattering of public confidence in the Sheriff's Department and the jails in particular," Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky said.

Although the commission would have no legal power to compel Sheriff Lee Baca to act, it could draft recommendations that federal authorities may end up enforcing, said Yaroslavsky's spokesman, Joel Bellman. The jails already are the subject of at least one FBI probe.

1. I saw a guy get beat up in LA County Jail - four guards held while one kicked

Two guards held his arms behind his back, two more held his legs folded back to expose his belly and another took 12 (I counted them) super large kicks to the man's abdomen. During the kicking, the guards spat on him.

Later, they dragged him into the hallway and I heard several more sounds that were punches to the face. I know this because when he went out his face was intact, but when he came back to the clinic his face was all fucked up. They called him "Krazy"... stand here krazy. Sit here krazy.

And I saw three of the officers collude on the story and compare notes while writing the even up in their logs, discussing their "what happened", making sure they all had the same story, which was a complete fabrication because I saw the whole thing and heard their discussions.

I now know to hate screws.
