Bolivia cancels controversial Amazon highway

LA PAZ — Bolivian President Evo Morales announced on Friday he was scrapping a controversial plan to build a highway through an Amazon ecological reserve that has triggered widespread protests.

Morales told reporters he had sent an amendment to Congress, controlled by government supporters, halting the plans for the road through the Isiboro Secure National Park and Indigenous Territory (TIPNIS).

"Therefore, the issue of the TIPNIS has been resolved," Morales said. "This is governing by obeying the people."

Morales made the announcement just ahead of a meeting with representatives of some 2,000 indigenous people who entered La Paz on Wednesday after a two-month march from their ancestral homeland in the Amazon lowlands to press Morales to cancel the project.

5. Way to Go, EVO!
One of my favorite World Leaders.
The Populist Reforms Sweeping across South/Central America give me "hope" for the World.
"The worst enemy of humanity is U.S. capitalism. That is what provokes uprisings like our own, a rebellion against a system, against a neoliberal model, which is the representation of a savage capitalism. If the entire world doesn't acknowledge this reality, that nation states are not providing even minimally for health, education and nourishment, then each day the most fundamental human rights are being violated."
----Bolivian Reform President Evo Morales

FDR said much the same thing in 1944 with his Economic Bill of Rights,
but FDR and THAT "Democratic Party" are long dead.
It was killed in the 80s by the "Centrists".
We either find a way to resurrect the Old Democratic Party,
or we will have to build another one.

Our neighbors in Latin America have given us a Blue Print for "change".
What they have accomplished is nothing short of near Bloodless Revolutions.

VIVA Democracy!!!
I hope we get some here soon!

10. Does it mean USAID and the CIA won?
Just a few short months ago many were loudly blaming them for agitating the protestors against this highway.
