President Obama praises troops, says time is now to rebuild economy
Source: The Hill

President Obama said that ending conflicts abroad will help refocus the nation on strengthening the struggling economy.

In his weekly address, the president said it was good news that U.S. troops will be returning home from conflicts overseas. Obama said bringing wars in Iraq and Libya to a close will help the country focus on its “greatest challenge”: rebuilding the economy.

Now with the wars coming to a close, the president said, America needs to invest more at home rather than abroad.

“As we end these wars, we’re focusing on our greatest challenge as a nation —rebuilding our economy and renewing our strength at home. Over the past decade, we spent a trillion dollars on war, borrowed heavily from overseas and invested too little in the greatest source of our national strength: our own people. Now, the nation we need to build is our own,” Obama said.

1. Sure can't argue against that.
I'm sure some will, though.

2. Obama as CIC is the one thing that Cantor, McConnell, and Boehner can't
control via budget or filibuster.

The gnashing of the collective teeth of republicans this week-end.

14. Maliki refused the terms at Obama's bidding. Obama needed a politically expedient way out of Iraq
Edited on Sat Oct-22-11 10:56 PM by truthisfreedom
to cut costs and improve the economic numbers before re-election. Obama made the announcement, let the rethugs step in it with both feet, then allowed Maliki to announce that it was HIS decision to reject the terms. The terms in question, of course, are that American service men and women will not be protected from legal action for their continued activities. This is a perfect scheme devised by our brilliant operatives in the administration, and it's a political complication for the rethugs from which they will never recover. He's got a lot more freaky moves up his sleeve. He's been planning them the whole time they've been playing the "I'm three years old and all I can say is NO!!!" game. They've been resting on their "no" tactics laurels while he's been stringing tripwire all throughout the coming election cycle. Watch and see.

The thugs have now been caught off-guard. They're going to have to scramble to react to Obama now, and they'll never know when they're being played. Congrats, Obama. You've got a laundry-list of dead bad guys that the thugs couldn't kill for 8 years and now you've made the ultimate score... you got us out of Iraq clean and did it without the thugs being able to fling the "surrender monkey" poo everywhere. Well-played, my friend.

7. I think that Obama has many "Breaking News" worthy announcements...

...teed up and ready for unveiling in the next 13 months, or so.

If you think that the Rs are unhappy now, just wait.

Pass that popcorn!

11. Pity he didn't figure that out 2-1/2 years ago - most of us did.
I notice he didn't mention the money he continues to waste in Afghanistan.

12. Shrinking the middle class even further by signing three bogus "free trade" deals isn't "rebuilding"
If Obama doesn't become Goldman Sach's next CEO, there's always a gig for him at the US Chamber of Offshoring Jobs.

13. Thank you.
"Rebuild the economy."

The positive promises tend to be so vague, while the damaging policies are so devastatingly specific.
