Obama's announcement of Iraq withdrawal date puts U.S. troops "in peril," says Rick Perry

Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry on Saturday accused President Obama of endangering U.S. troops by announcing plans to end the nation's military role in Iraq this year.

"The last thing you want to do is put those men and women's lives in peril and I think that's what the president's done by making a political statement to his base that he's going to be out of Iraq by a date certain," Perry said.

The Texas governor, who had joined a number of his Republican rivals in criticizing the president's planned troop withdrawal on Friday, got more pointed as he spoke to reporters in Iowa, where Perry was joining one of the state's Republican members of Congress, Steve King, on a pheasant hunt.

Perry, an Air Force veteran who noted that he was "commander in chief of a fairly substantial group of individuals in the National Guard of Texas," called Obama's decision "bad public policy" and "bad tactics."

Well, there you have it. Like every other Republican, Perry is hammering President Obama on the pullout, because taking US troops out of war zones endangers them. Apparently, it is safer to keep them in an armed conflict, rather than to bring them home.

1. There must be no criticism of the commander in chief in a time of war
God Bless our troops AND their commander in chief.

29. There must always be criticism of the POTUS and most especially when he commits our children's lives
and our economy to a war.

That is why we have a First Amendment.

Not to mention that the so called war on terror will never end.

4. Someone needs to tell Perry that it was BUSH that signed the agreement
and it was BUSH that agreed on the pull-out date.

Seems like NONE of the GOP'ers know anything.

12. THAT POINT NEEDS TO BE HAMMERED HOME
this is NOT a political move to appease anyone on the left. Obama Admin WAS negotiating to keep troops there longer.

Bush signed the Status of Forces Act in 2008, requiring the withdrawl by this years end.

if the the enemy knows they'll be gone in a few months?

And of course, he could reduce the peril by pulling them out even SOONER.

Just make sure the banner is not cropped out and put the date of the photo under the pic. Says it all.

14. Iraq is big money for defense contractors
If we pull out (which I'm all for) there will be no need for defense contractors in Iraq. Its huge money. That is what bothers Perry and most other wingnuts. They are happy to send middle and lower class soldiers and marines in to harms way to keep the contractors happy and employed.

15. AND the always forgotten to mention KICKBACK$ to Republican
politician$.

I just wish everybody would always mention this 'end-of-the-line' which is at the origin of all their evil.

Too many people forget that's where their money goes to.

Of course, all politicians need money to campaign, but why does it always have to 'transit' through special interests pockets? Why can't it go DIRECTLY into campaign funding. Where is the TRANSPARENCY when everything is done in HIDING?

18. foreign policy decisions
I, for one, would put Obama's foreign policy decisions, up against Republican administration, and GOP contenders any day of the week. Like I heard someone comment on a left wing radio show, If Obama had congressional support for his domestice policies, we might be looking at the same degree of success as he's had in foreign policy. (not saying he's perfect)

20. Because we can sneak 50,000 troops and their materiel out overnight, using our

cloak of invisibility. It would probably be weeks, or maybe months, before they figured out we were gone.

We should be sneaky, like Rick is on a peasant hunt. (I think they got the spelling wrong in the news story above). It's one of his favorite outdoor activites.

Both Perry and Romney when their dire consequences fail to materalize. They may get the Republican nomination with such talk but expecting the electorate to forgive such radical talk is silly at best.

Edited on Sun Oct-23-11 03:36 AM by No Elephants
Damn media for simply re-publishing crap.

Journalism is no longer journalism, but mindless repetition of what "he said, she said." (Okay, in the case of U.S. politics, it's more often, "he said, he said," but you get my point.)

Edited because I had originally typed "Louise" without the "i". It was unintentional, but it worked that way, too.

because when I read the sentence "The last thing you want to do is put those Men and Women's lives in peril" I want to finish it with 'So let's bring them home'.
