Poll: 43 percent agree with views of "Occupy Wall Street"
Edited on Tue Oct-25-11 10:15 PM by highplainsdem
Source: CBS News

Forty-three percent of Americans agree with the views of the "Occupy Wall Street" movement, according to a new CBS News/New York Times poll that found a widespread belief that money and wealth should be distributed more evenly in America.

Twenty-seven percent of Americans said they disagree with the movement, which began more than a month ago in lower Manhattan and has since spread across the country and around the world. Thirty percent said they were unsure.

Young and left-leaning Americans were more likely to agree with the movement than were their older and more conservative counterparts. Half of Americans ages 18-29 say they agree with the movement; just one in three Americans age 65 or older say the same. And two thirds of liberals say they agree with "Occupy Wall Street" compared with just one in four conservatives.

Americans with at least some college education are more likely to agree with the movement than those with less education. Nearly half of those with at least some college education say they agree with "Occupy Wall Street"; among those who did not attend college, that figure drops to 37 percent.

The poll also found that most Americans agree with OWS that the current distribution of wealth is unfair -- 86% of Dems, 67% of independents, and even 36% of Republicans.

6. 46% say OWS reflects most Americans' views; 27% say the same of tea party.
With nearly all Americans remaining fearful that the economy is stagnating or deteriorating further, two-thirds of the public said that wealth should be distributed more evenly in the country. Seven in 10 Americans think the policies of Congressional Republicans favor the rich. Two-thirds object to tax cuts for corporations and a similar number prefer increasing income taxes on millionaires.

Republican voters remain unenthused about their options to challenge President Obama next year, as the competition intensifies among Mitt Romney, Gov. Rick Perry of Texas and other contenders. The uncertainty has provided an opening for Herman Cain, who was viewed more enthusiastically by Republican primary voters than were other Republican candidates.

Congressional Republicans are viewed even worse than the president, with 71 percent of the public saying the party does not have a clear plan for creating jobs. And support for several other Republican proposals is more tepid than for Mr. Obama’s initiatives to lift the economy.

Only about a quarter of the public said that lowering taxes on large corporations or repealing the entire national health care law was a good idea. In February, a CBS News poll found that 27 percent of the public said the views of the Tea Party movement reflected the sentiment of most Americans. In the current poll, 46 percent of the public said the same of the Occupy Wall Street movement.

8. Say what? The poll also found that most Americans agree with OWS
"The poll also found that most Americans agree with OWS that the current distribution of wealth is unfair -- 86% of Dems, 67% of independents, and even 36% of Republicans."

The unjust distribution of wealth is THE issue of OWS and most Americans agree with that.

'
So what the hell do only 43% of Americans agree with?

And notice which finding of the poll CBS chose to use as its headline and its lead (first) paragraph. In journalism class, they teach you that readers read from the top of a story down. Further, they may read nothing but the headline or maybe nothing but the headline and the first paragraph, so put all your important info in the first paragraph.

Guess CBS thought that what 43% of those polled think is more important than what a healthy majority of what those polled think.

Lord, forgive me, but I hate slanting of news by news media.
