Iraqis vent anger over Basra bombings; Fallujah insurgents warned over weapons

BASRA, Iraq (AFP) - Iraqis vented their rage at the British occupiers they blame for suicide bombings in Basra that killed 68 people as US coalition forces warned insurgents in besieged Fallujah they had only days to turn in their weapons.

...

But in Basra, angry supporters of a firebrand Shiite cleric blamed for fueling a deadly rebellion against the occupation this month marched through the city, blaming the multiple attacks on the British troops who control southern Iraq.

A spokesman for cleric Moqtada Sadr, wanted by the US forces for murder, said he had evidence British troops were involved in the bombings of police installations in and around Basra.

"They (the United States and Britain) want to ruin the country and leave," photo shop owner Abu Fallah said during the demonstration.

Spokesman for the British forces Captain Hisham Hallawi told CNN it was "completely untrue" that British troops had instigated the massacre in the Shiite-dominated city.

1. The story doesn't present evidence one way or the other
Unfortunately, when your invasion is based on a lie, people tend to distrust you from then on. A pity Bush and Blair can't (or won't) see that elementary point.

2. People aren't wrong to blame the Westerners for these tragedies.
All this sorrow stems from the immoral decision to wage war against the people of Iraq. Thousands of sons and daughters, fathers and mothers have been slaughtered. And that's what it has been: slaughter--one-sided, from the safety of hi-tech fortresses.

3. Sad but true.
It's not much different than marching people off to gas chambers and ovens. There's no way the Iraqis can fight us with weapons...they have to lay their lives on the line becaus of our superior technology. Much the same way the Palestinians have to do with rocks, mortars, and suicide bombs. When will we learn that desparate people do desparate things? The US was in no way 'desparate' in its 'war of choice' and immoral and illegal invasion of a sovereign nation that had not threatened us. I don't call shooting at US planes flying over your sovereign nation 'attacking' us like Condi and the other Bush regime members say. The 'no fly zone' was illegal and a thrumped up move by the US and the UK to have a reason to keep bombing Iraq. I am totally disgusted by our government and our military leaders. I pray for all the sons and daughters over there who have been misled into believing that they are fighting for their country. They are fighting for the PNAC agenda and nothing more.

7. It's "hiding" with the WMD's....
And bush thinks if he finds WMD's, he'll find the "love", too.

The man is just crazy...plain and simple.
