Perry says it was a ‘mistake’ for him to participate in 2012 debates
Source: The Ticket /Yahoo News

Many political observers agree that Rick Perry's dismal debate performances have helped spark his dramatic collapse in recent polls. Now, not surprisingly, the Republican presidential hopeful insists his biggest mistake in the campaign so far was agreeing to participate in the forums at all.

"These debates are set up for nothing more than to tear down the candidates. It's pretty hard to be able to sit and lay out your ideas and your concepts with a one-minute response," the Texas governor told Fox News's Bill O'Reilly. "So, you know, if there was a mistake made, it was probably ever doing one of the , when all they're interested in is stirring up between the candidates instead of really talking about the issues that are important to the American people."

I'd say it was a mistake for him to run for POTUS.

14. Especially when Mitt's idea of "intense scrutiny" is checking his hairdo in the mirrot.
Psst. Mitt. REALLY transparent color job. Not anywhere near as good as Reagan's.

With all your money, you really should be able to get a less obvious colorist.

Word to the wise.

You're welcome.

Always better to make up your mind about a potential POTUS before you've heard him debate.

Republicsns are smart that way.

12. His biggest "mistake" was going out in public for the first time.
His second biggest "mistake" was opening his trap in public.

After that, it was a mistake for him to run for office, a mistake to get elected, and a mistake to think he knows what the hell he's doing.

13. Yep,. When running for POTUS, it's always better not to reveal how utterly hopeless you are
when it comes to public speaking or presenting your ideas.

Sane people might realize that those are skills a POTUS really needs when addressing the nation, Congress, political leaders at home and from abroad, etc.

No flies on Perry. He gets it was a mistake to let folks know he really can't do any of that very well.

So, now, he's wisely beating the dead birther issue with a dull stick (or, if you will, a dull schtick).

Tone deaf, tongue-tied AND brain dead. Sounds like your average Republican Governor of Texas.

27. Unfortunately though, in the digital age, sound bites are what we've got
Candidates must have a cogent 1 minute answer to the big questions even if it's to simply say that the topic is complex, the answer is lengthy and there simply isn't enough time to compress it. Perry knew that going in, his debate prep team should have helped him with some standard answers. Or he could have taken the Sarah Palin route and not answered them at all and simply mad up his own sound bites to feed out in response if he wanted to stay on the national stage (which she has for better or for worse...).

Regardless, it did show that he's not ready for "prime time" and in this digital age, he showed that he doesn't have what it takes.

Honestly, I don't think that's bad at all. Perry was a scary bad candidate and that he's toast is a good thing. The manner of his demise may be problematic but it did weed him out as it should have. He should never have stepped into the race but since he did, it's better that SOME forum exposed him.

30. Perry has no idea what it takes to be President. Does he
think he's going to have weeks to sit down and talk with foreign leaders? He can't walk and chew gum at the same time, so how on earth does he think he can handle the myriad of daily problems that arise?

Such a friggin' waste of space. It's amazing he has held any political office.

32. Perry's mistake was in doing it too soon after 8 years of Bush the Least's incompetence.
The corporate media; could bullshit enough of the American People with their brainwashing propaganda and carry Bush through dismal debates, spinning his performance after the fact and enable him to the most powerful job in the land, but the Internet is stronger than it was in 2000 and memory of Bush's catastrophic eight years too fresh to allow a repeat.
