Fort Hood soldiers returning amid celebration

T.A. BADGER
Associated Press

FORT HOOD, Texas - After a year in which they captured Saddam Hussein and lost 79 soldiers while doing whatever they could to stabilize Iraq, the troops of the 4th Infantry Division are finally back home.

This Central Texas Army post gave its 20,000 returning troops a hero's welcome with a daylong party Thursday, a day after the last of them flew in from their yearlong tour in the Middle East.

"When the 4th (Infantry Division) nabbed the ace of spades, the people of Iraq knew that he would never terrorize them again," Brownlee said, referring to Saddam's rank in the card deck of high-level Iraqis sought by U.S.-led forces.

A patriotic concert was scheduled with Jessica Simpson, Randy Travis, Tracy Byrd, Ludacris, Mercy Me and John Michael Montgomery. Other scheduled entertainment includes Drew Carey, Lynyrd Skynyrd and the New England Patriots Cheerleaders.

2. "the people of Iraq knew he would never terrorize them again"
Yeah, now they only have to worry about the US terrorizing them. That's a WHOLE lot better isn't it?

4. I wonder how they really feel, deep down inside.
It's a hell of nightmare, imagine. But many don't feel that the enemy or the civilians that they kill are human beings just like the enemy feel about us. It's awful the way war de-humanizes us all. And when you think about it, if we win, what the hell will we have won? 79 lives utterly wasted so a few old men can strut around like cowboys and corporate thugs can hug their yachts and tax cuts.

3. Hope they didn't make them parade down the streets

because nobody hates a parade worse than a soldier.
