KCRGBLACK HAWK COUNTY, Iowa - Wounded warriors trying to adapt homes to their disabilities would get a boost from proposed legislation. In fact, a bill sponsored by First District Congressman Bruce Braley (D-IOWA) would double the amount of grant money available per person to make temporary housing more handicapped accessible.
Congressman Braley brought his campaign for more help for wounded warriors on Friday to the home of Ian Ralston in rural Waterloo. Army Sergeant Ralston was left paralyzed from the neck down after he was caught by the blast of an improvised explosive device (IED) in Iraq in 2010. Volunteers and contractors extensively remodeled his family’s home for free to accommodate his physical needs.
The changes include a lengthy ramp for his wheelchair at the front of the home, a wheelchair elevator in the living room and both a bathroom and bedroom modified with lifts to help move Ralston from his wheelchair.
But Braley, who was visiting the former Army medic’s home, noted the value of the donated materials and labor added up to nearly $70,000. And the Congressman said not every wounded warrior can count on the kind of community support that the Ralston family found in rural Black Hawk County.

When's the last time we've heard of Steve King or Michele Bachmann doing this???
I am so glad those of us of the 1st District didn't lose this awesome Representative we've got taking care of us in Congress. I hope Iowa continues to benefit from him for years to come.
