Qantas grounds its entire worldwide fleet
Source: The Guardian

The Australian airline, Qantas, has grounded its entire fleet because of ongoing industrial action.

Domestic and international flights stopped flying as of 5pm Sydney time (7am GMT).

Qantas CEO, Alan Joyce said the union's demands were unreasonable and he was left with no other option.

"This course of action has been forced on us because of the damage done by three unions," he said.

1. "Damage done by three unions"?
Those greedy union dogs must be demanding huge salaries! The nerve killing a cash strapped company like that.

Here's an example of what these ungrateful workers are already taking home:

Mr. Alan Joseph Joyce
Chief Exec. Officer, Managing Director, Exec. Director and Member of Safety, Health, Environment & Security Committee.
Pay: $2,800,000

Mr. Gareth R. Evans ,
Chief Financial officer
Pay: $977,000

Ms. Jayne Hrdlicka
BA, MBA, Group Exec. of Strategy and Technology
Pay: $361,000

Mr. Simon Hickey
Chief Exec. Officer of Qantas Frequent Flyer
$875,000

Mr. Bruce Buchanan
Chief Exec. Officer of Jetstar
$852,000

I can't believe they don't know there's a recession, and we all have to tighten our belts these days! They should fire the above high paid employees and hire replacement workers at half the cost.

2. That's out of date now. Joyce got a massive pay-rise yesterday...
According to the Herald Sun, he's now on 5 million a year, yet all he'll offer long-haul pilots, engineers and baggage handlers is 3%

The unions haven't done the damage. That's all down to Alan Joyce. Not only has he grounded Qantas globally, but from Monday he's locking out all Qantas staff who are involved in strike action.

4. Why is Jayne Hrdlicka paid so much less than the other execs? Oh. I get it.
She's a woman.

Inequities even in the executive branch.

5. Most people that senior in a large corporation make much more.
I bet they are embarrassed about it when they have to golf with other corporate execs!
