Kerry to Bush: Talk OPEC Into Lower Oil Prices Now
Kerry to Bush: Talk OPEC Into Lower Oil Prices Now

Thu Apr 22, 2004 03:21 PM ET

By Patricia Wilson

HOUSTON (Reuters) -
Democratic White House hopeful
John Kerry on Thursday
challenged President Bush to
prove he had not cut a deal with
Saudi Arabia by pressuring
OPEC oil-producing countries to
lower prices now.

Despite assurances from the
Saudi ambassador that his country
made no agreement to hold down
oil prices just before the Nov. 2.
election to boost Bush's chances,
Kerry said "the simple truth" was
that Americans were getting a bad
deal.

"Mr. President, I'm here today to
say if there was no deal, no
agreement ... then stand up today
and jawbone OPEC to lower the
price now," Kerry told a rally at
the University of Houston to mark
Earth Day.

2. I love it. It makes Bush out to be in collusion with the Saudi's...which
of course he is! Just imagine how much more profitable those old, Texas oil wells have become, since Bush became pResident. When an Arab makes a dollar, a Texan makes two.

I just hope Kerry is being guarded better than JFK while in Texas. He really DOES seem to be a very brave individual.

4. He should remind people that Bush said he'd "Jawbone" the OPEC
(essentially bullying them) into keeping the prices low.

Bush PROMISED. George W. Bush in the 2000 campaign: "A promise made is a promise kept." (Which also includes an attack on W's National Guard service).

5. I hope Kerry keeps this up
all through the summer, when they're expecting record gas prices. If Bush doesn't do anything about them, the prices will be associated with him, or even if he does manage to get them down, then Kerry will get credit for it. :-)

6. Kerry goes for a two-fer
First he releases a record of lobbyists he's met, and challenges Bush to release a similar list, then this....

Our boy's doing fine.
