Romney says he wants ‘to make America right again’
Source: New Hampshire Union Leader

A Manchester resident who asked Romney about deficit reduction later said he does not believe Romney, or any candidate, will be able to balance the budget and reduce the federal debt.

“We’re going to have to (raise taxes). It’s B.S. if you say you won’t,” Manchester resident Rick DeBlois said in an interview after the event ended. Serious Republicans understand that, but the Tea Party makes it a kiss of death to mention raising taxes, said DeBlois, an accountant who is a Republican.

He said Romney didn’t provide enough specifics about deficit reduction.

Romney said he would reduce federal spending to 20 percent of the nation’s economy and keep defense at 4 percent. Repealing President Obama’s health care plan would save $1 trillion, he said. And he would eliminate unspecified government agencies altogether, consolidate programs and farm some federal programs, such as Medicaid, off to the states.

To put Romney's proposal into perspective, the Tea Party's balanced budget amendment, which would require the gutting if not outright abolition of Medicare, caps spending at 20 percent. Also, Romney has pledged not to increase taxes. So, even some Republicans are calling BS on him. But, the corporate media will never call out a Republican who promises to cap spending at 20 percent, reduce the deficit, not raise taxes, and not cut Medicare or Social Security.

1. When was America "right?"
Implying that there was ever such a time is almost always a veiled effort to appeal to reactionaries and open the door to divide and conquer tactics - it's the liberals fault! The immigrants! The gays! etc. etc. etc. America has never been perfect. We go through periods of self-improvement, yes, but there's no utopian past.

2. 1976 to 1978 was not perfect, but was right.
Aside from the cold war and the burning of fossil fuel, that time was pretty good.

Like Michael Moore said, the rich were doing great, and so was the middle class.

Granted, the working class needed improvements in services and a higher minimum wage.

6. The only downside to Romney winning would be the Supreme Court picks.
The upside would be that the Democrats would have to counter what he does. Which would be better than what we have now.

10. "The only downside"?
Uh, no, that would not be the only downside. Think veto pen, executive orders, a media that will depict the Democrats obstructionists, etc. Think attempts to appeal to the Republican base.

Be careful what you wish for.

13. I chum and throw in a tasty chunk of bait
and that's all I get in response? That's not very convincing. (Then again, the Obama 2012 DUers blocked me long ago.)

Not using his veto pen and attempting to appeal to the Republican base are two of my biggest problems with Obama.

Believe me, I'm not wishing for Romney, but I think that's what we're going to get if he wins the nomination. Too many liberals are furious with Obama for lying to them in 2007/2008. (OWS.)

11. The only downside to Romney winning would be ...
... another unqualified nut trying to run the country like a business.

15. That's not very convincing either.
Not easy to draw a contrast between Obama and Romney is it? It's going to be a... What are they going to say when they run against each other?

along with its cap on raising taxes.

You can't draw contrast between Obama and Romney? Are you being sarcastic? If not, just let me know.

18. Only Downside? Its The Same "Compassionate Conservatism" Propaganda...
...I remember how Bush was soft sold to the American people as a compassionate conservative who was less extreme than folks like Buchanan. Yet, he ended up appointing far right justices and implementing deregulatory policies and deficit busting tax cuts that we are still trying to unwind.

The corporate media is going to once again try to soft sell who ever the Republican candidate is, and sadly even some Democrats are going to buy into the notion that a Republican president would not be that bad.

12. Obama's our only hope.
There are several reasons to vote for Obama, but, alas, the best one is that the GOP has simply lost its fucking mind.

17. Yeah. "Right again". Means everything
run by white, rich, Republican Country Clubbers. Latinos washing dishes, gardening and valet-parking at said Country Clubs. Electric border fences frying illegals. Gays back in the closet. Back to June Cleaver women. And, oh yeah, get that damn n-word out of the Oval Office.

26. Right. Like this: "Romney pledges against gay marriage"
Mitt Romney signed the National Organization for Marriage's five-point pledge that promises support for a federal constitutional amendment "defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman."

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/700168456/Romney-pledges-against-gay-marriage.html

That'll fix America for sure.
:sarcasm:
