Two women accused Herman Cain of inappropriate behavior
Source: Politico

During Herman Cain’s tenure as the head of the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s, at least two female employees complained to colleagues and senior association officials about inappropriate behavior by Cain, ultimately leaving their jobs at the trade group, multiple sources confirm to POLITICO.

The women complained of sexually suggestive behavior by Cain that made them angry and uncomfortable, the sources said, and they signed agreements with the restaurant group that gave them financial payouts to leave the association. The agreements also included language that bars the women from talking about their departures...

He was then asked, “Have you ever been accused, sir, in your life of harassment by a woman?”

He breathed audibly, glared at the reporter and stayed silent for several seconds. After the question was repeated three times, he responded by asking the reporter, “Have you ever been accused of sexual harassment?”

6. His response can be inspired by this quote
"This is not an opportunity to talk about difficult matters privately or in a closed environment. This is a circus. It is a national disgrace. And from my standpoint, as a black American, as far as I am concerned, it is a high-tech lynching for uppity-blacks who in any way deign to think for themselves, to do for themselves, to have different ideas, and it is a message that, unless you kow-tow to an old order this is what will happen to you, you will be lynched, destroyed, caricatured by a committee of the U.S. Senate, rather than hung from a tree." Clarence Thomas

19. Only Victim Thomas could equate SCOTUS confirmation hearings with a lynching.
What an egregious insult to those who were lynched and everyone who knew and loved them.

God forbid someone even ask if him if he mistreated a female co-worker.

And Justice Scalia II still doesn't get it.

8. Cain's spokesperson all but confirmed the story
“These are old and tired allegations that never stood up to the facts,” Gordon said in an email response. “This was settled amicably among all
parties many years ago, and dredging this up now is merely part of a smear campaign meant to discredit a true patriot who is shaking up the
political status quo.”

20. It's so obvious to me that Romney was the pre-selected nominee all along.

I am impressed by the lengths the GOP has gone to in order to trick their rank-and-file into supporting Romney, a flip-flopping Mormon from Massachusetts. The only thing this guy stands for is Wall Street.

22. Politico: Herman Cain faced sexual harassment charges at trade group
Source: Political Intelligence

Politico reported last night that Herman Cain faced allegations of sexual harassment from two women in the 1990s, prompting financial settlements from the trade association which he led and where they worked.

A spokesman for the Republican presidential candidate, who has vaulted to the top of some recent polls, denied the allegation to The Associated Press but declined repeated requests from Politico for a direct response to questions about whether his behavior prompted the payouts.

The same is true for the National Restaurant Association, which Cain led after heading Godfather’s Pizza. It is on the strength of that business background and experience that the Georgian is now claiming the outsider credentials to be an effective president.

23. This is great! He's handling it like he handles foreign policy:
from Politico:

he responded by asking the reporter, ‘Have YOU ever been accused of sexual harassment?’” Politico reported.

Maybe he can use this tactic in the debates: "Well, how would YOU insure my tax plan doesn't raise taxes on the poor?"

Sad to say (cause he's funny as hell), but I think the GOP is about to move on to somebody else.

25. While I'm no fan of Cain
This article and these accusations seem pretty thin to me. Maybe the reporter has some more information, but it seems like there's not much meat there.

There are plenty of other reasons to dislike Herman Cain!

42. Yes, but he's a repuke, so these allegations are credible,
true, and relevant. :sarcasm: In the end, what does it matter. This is simply one repuke putting out a story to damage another, and Cain isn't going to be the nominee anyway.

This isn't even the most objectionable thing I've heard about Cain THIS WEEK. This story will fade quickly unless the repukes keep it alive, which I suspect they will. It has Karl Rove written all over it.

40. Correct - Politico is simply a conduit to get Drudge stories into the MSM
Who starts an online newspaper in 2007? People who don't care about losing money. It was instantly a go to source and got a seat in the White House press room.

33. This is just a big slimy ball of *yick* matter how I try to read it. I mean:

I don't like Politico
I don't like Herman Cain
I don't like sexual harassment
I don't like stories based on anonymous sources
I don't like assuming a settlement implies guilt
I don't like evasive answers to direct questions
I don't like settlements gagging parties to a complaint
I don't like it when other media repack stories from Politico
I don't like personal gotcha stories getting more coverage than policy

IMO it's a story utterly without redeeming social value
