Millions in drugs seized, 70 arrested in Arizona, officials say

Washington (CNN) -- At least 70 suspected drug smugglers with alleged ties to the powerful Sinaloa cartel have been arrested in Arizona, according to officials familiar with the operation.

The massive take-down of the drug trafficking network in Arizona included arrests of both Mexican and U.S. suspects, law enforcement officials said Monday.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement which led the 17-month investigation said it would provide detailed information at a news conference later Monday in Phoenix.

Sources familiar with the operation confirmed federal, state and local law enforcement officials seized thousands of pounds of marijuana, cocaine and heroin worth hundreds of millions of dollars in a series of raids. They also seized large caches of weapons and ammunition.

And politely ask them not to do again? Yeah, like that's gonna happen. Do you know anybody whose life was ruined by using hard drugs like heroin or cocaine? I do and it was not a pretty sight. Crack killed my cousin, Lynn, among others I know. I don't have a problem with decriminalizing pot, but heroin and coke? No way. Gang war crime is fueled by hard drug commerce and innocents are caught in the cross-fire daily. Too many in our society lead a 'Less than Zero' life because of hard drug abuse. Just what exactly do you propose we do with these poor, simple 'Mules'?
