S.F. sheriff defends deputy in Scott Olsen videos
Source: SF Chron

(10-31) 14:16 PDT SAN FRANCISCO -- San Francisco Sheriff's Department officials expressed concern today that a deputy who took part in Tuesday's night's police action against Occupy Oakland protesters had been accused online of injuring Scott Olsen, the Iraq war veteran who suffered a skull fracture.

The deputy's name, and photographs and videos of him, appear on several websites, and he is mentioned in numerous messages on Twitter.

Video footage shows Olsen, a 24-year-old Daly City resident and member of Iraq Veterans Against the War, dropping to the ground as tear-gas canisters and other explosive devices go off near him. It's not clear exactly what caused him to fall.

As other protesters rush over to help him, a police officer behind a barricade is seen tossing some type of explosive canister into the crowd. That officer has not been identified.

7. I don't think it was him...
The guy that tossed the grenade was shorter that the police he was around. The guy they fingered most likely knows a: who threw the flashbang and b: who fired the tear gas cannister.

5. Oh, the irony!
When a police officer is injured or killed, someone always pays -- whether or not that person is actually guilty.

6. "Because of the online postings,
Because of the online postings, Hirst said, the Sheriff's Department is investigating whether deputies were involved in Olsen's injury."

So they wouldn't bother to investigate if the info hadn't been posted online?
