Cain Accuser Got a Year’s Salary in Severance Pay
Source: NY Times

The National Restaurant Association gave $35,000 — a year’s salary — in severance pay to a female staff member in the late 1990s after an encounter with Herman Cain, its chief executive at the time, made her uncomfortable working there, three people with direct knowledge of the payment said on Tuesday.

The woman was one of two whose accusations of sexual harassment by Mr. Cain, now a Republican candidate for president, led to paid severance agreements during his 1996-99 tenure as the association’s chief. Disclosure of the cases has rocked Mr. Cain’s campaign just as he was surging in polls.

Further challenging Mr. Cain, a lawyer for the second woman called on the restaurant association to release her from a confidentiality agreement signed as part of her settlement, raising the prospect that she could publicly dispute Mr. Cain’s account of what happened. The lawyer said the confidentiality agreement had left her unable to respond to Mr. Cain’s dismissal of the complaints against him as a “witch hunt” or to his denials of any inappropriate behavior toward the women. <snip>

1. Where there is smoke there is fire....
Herman just looks like a typical male scumbag.....cocky, self-assured, and despite his claims to Christian heritage, I think he would screw anything that walked past his 3" penis.

2. 'Christian heritage' and 'screw anything that walked past his 3" penis'
I'm struggling with why these are mutually exclusive.

4. Yep, watch Cain spiral into oblivion...
he's flamed out for Independents and even GOP "regulars" see him spiraling out of control.

7. He's such toast, and I had high hopes for the nutcase.
His 999 plan was ripe for inspection and dismissal.

9. Actually, I'm not so sure about that.
Most of the angry, cranky, over 50 Conservative Movement crowd remember the "high tech liberal lynching" of Clarance Thomas, and never got over it. Limbaugh and Coulter brought Thomas up the second this came out, hoping for a redux of that.

This could actually give Cain a BOOST in the hard-core Republican base. For those of us liberals who would LOVE to see a Cain/Perry 2012 ticket, I'm hoping this WILL put him over the top as the conservative movement circles the wagons around him.

12. It also reminded literally everyone who lived through that...
that the end result is the dumbest fool of a judge is now sitting on the USSC. Thomas panned out to be, far and away, the dumbest, laziest USSC Associate Judge anyone can recall. Comparing the two individuals and circumstances is precisely what the GOP should not want. While Cain is considerably brighter than Thomas, to equate them under the "high tech lynching" mantra is disaster in waiting.

Limbaugh and Coulter, (as well as the rest of the RW screech monkeys), have lost most of the "power" they've had in the past. The more they speak, the more irrelevant they become.

8. When I first saw this I thought "what kind of a half-assed settlement is $35K?" And then I realized
it was meant to be a year's salary for some poor women working in the F-ING RESTAURANT service industry. Did they at least give her a f-ing 10% TIP, or did they "stiff" her???

13. So what happens to her if she violates the confidentiality agreement?
She has to pay back the $35K? Shouldn't be too hard to raise that much money for her.....}(

Well, duh -- his mission was to siphon votes from Perry in favor of Romney. Mission accomplished, so now he's dispensable.

I heard on Olbermann that Cain had said it was only 2-3 months' salary, "which you normally get when you leave."

Anyway, hands up who DIDN'T see this coming...

:hi:
