North Korea clamps down on news
North Korea clamps down on news

REUTERS< THURSDAY, APRIL 22, 2004 09:43:07 PM >

SEOUL: North Korea appears to have cut international telephone lines to the area to prevent information about the explosion getting out. The North appears to have declared a type of emergency in the area.

Yonhap also quoted a senior Defence Ministry official as saying the South Korea's military - which eavesdrops on North Korea - had heard about the blast through "intelligence channels directed against the North".

There was no immediate suggestion the blast was anything other than an accident. But the explosion came after Kim met China's new leadership during a rare foreign visit to discuss the North's nuclear weapons plans and tentative economic reforms.

2. Yeah, I agree..

But North Korea is totally bonkers.

There was this really great Frontline special on PBS awhile ago, and it showed Madeleine Albright's trip to N Korea...I believe she is the only western politician to meet Kim Jong Il...anyways, it showed the country and you left with the impression that the guy is a fucking lunatic and their country is a hellhole.

You really have to see it to believe it. There was a part where Madeleine Albright is sitting there watching this big stadium show where people were doing those big designs where people would each hold up a seperate piece of a sign to make a large image.

Well, they have it down so good that they can make little animations by timing all of the cards and turning them at the right times...you really have to see it. It's amazing.

So Albright is just sitting there watching this and she has this look on her face like "Umm...HELP GET ME THE HELL OUT OF THIS CRAZY ASS COUNTRY!!!!"...

I really want to find a copy of that show sometime. Really puts how crazy N Korea is into perspective.

North Korea is a totalitarian state...nothing is allowed to slip through. We're as manipulated through our ignorance (which is our choice) as much as anything else.

5. Amazing - the government can force people to act this way
Whereas, in the U.S. people do this at football games quite willingly, if it would help their favorite college team or a professional team win a trophy. This proves they are brainwashed and we are free.
