Cain Says Perry Camp Behind Sex Harassment Leak
Source: Forbes

Was the recent attack on Herman Cain’s presidential campaign a professional hit job? Absolutely, says Herman Cain. And he says he knows just where to look for the guy who did it: At 815 Slaters Lane in Alexandria, Virginia, a low-slung former warehouse in the shadow of a coal plant.

There, beside rusting rail lines, is the home of OnMessage Inc., a Republican-leaning consulting firm recently hired to bolster Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s presidential campaign.

Contributor One of the firm’s partners, Curt Anderson, worked on Cain’s losing 2004 U.S. Senate campaign. Cain thinks he’s the hired political gun who leaked details to Politico, a Washington trade publication, of alleged “sexually suggestive behavior” Cain is said to have exhibited towards two women while he ran the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s. That story set off a media frenzy which has quickly put Cain’s campaign on the defense.

In the summer of 2003, Cain recalls briefing Anderson—his general campaign consultant at the time—that sexual harassment claims were brought against him while he was chairman of the National Restaurant Association from 1996 to 1999. . .

9. By the 6 O'clock news tonight Perry will be replaced with Liberals
:eyes:

But seriously, progressives want Cain to win the nomination because he's a Buffoon (but the again so is Perry). Why would we leak the news, since we (liberals) have nothing to lose or gain by leaking this.

It was an inside job by one of the other candidates. My money is on Perry but I wouldn't be suprised if the Bachmann folks had a hand in this.

16. Cain camp: Perry team "absolutely" behind leak
Edited on Thu Nov-03-11 02:49 AM by Douglas Carpenter
Source: CBS NEWS

The Herman Cain campaign is calling on Rick Perry's campaign to apologize for allegedly leaking to Politico the fact that Cain was accused of sexually harassing two women while serving as head of the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s.

In an appearance on Fox News, Cain chief of staff Mark Block said the campaign was "absolutely" charging the Perry campaign with "stirring this up."

"First, you're charging the Perry campaign with stirring this up," prompted Fox News' Bret Baier.

"Absolutely. And quite frankly, this is one of the actions in America that is the reason people don't get involved in politics. The actions of the Perry campaign are despicable," Block said. "Rick Perry and his campaign owe Herman Cain and his family an apology."

But this is as good as any way to get rid of Cain. It's not like he was really trying to be president.

But why should anyone apologize for leaking the truth about a candidate for a Presidential nomination to Americans?

37. Cain Says Perry Is Orchestrating a Smear Campaign -Perry camp floats Romney camp as culprits
Edited on Wed Nov-02-11 09:23 PM by Douglas Carpenter

By JEFF ZELENY, JIM RUTENBERG and MICHAEL D. SHEAR
Published: November 2, 2011

WASHINGTON — A defiant Herman Cain accused Gov. Rick Perry of Texas, a Republican rival, of orchestrating a smear campaign to destroy his presidential candidacy, as additional accusations emerged Wednesday that Mr. Cain made unwanted sexual overtures to women while he led the National Restaurant Association more than a decade ago.

As he sought to contain the fallout that consumed his campaign for a third day, Mr. Cain shifted his blame from the news media to the Perry campaign. He accused a top political adviser to Mr. Perry of leaking details of one allegation, saying the adviser learned of it while working for Mr. Cain’s failed bid for the Senate in 2004.

A spokesman for Mr. Perry called the suggestion “patently untrue,” and denied the campaign was the source of the disclosures that have upended the race for the Republican presidential nomination. Mr. Cain took aim at his rival after The Associated Press reported that a third woman had come forward with an allegation of sexual harassment at the restaurant association in the 1990s

Rick Perry camp floats Mitt Romney as culprit in Cain affair

By ALEXANDER BURNS | 11/2/11 9:33 PM EDT
As Herman Cain blames Rick Perry for the stories about his alleged sexual harassment, one Perry spokesman suggests another culprit:

"That is false, patently untrue, no one at this campaign was involved in this story," said Perry communications director Ray Sullivan.

Sullivan then suggested to CBS News and National Journal reporter Rebecca Kaplan that Mitt Romney's campaign is behind the allegations.

"I wouldn't put it past them," he said, stating that blog posts have noted that Cain's successor at the Restaurant Association "is a big Romney donor."

"There are much closer connections between the Restaurant Association, Cain and the Romney camp than there are with us," he said.

I asked Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul to respond to the insinuation that her campaign was involved in the story. Her response: "Not true."

When Jennifer Rubin asked the Perry campaign if they had evidence Romney was tied to the story, Sullivan answered: "I'm simply citing the ties between Romney camp and based on the facts."

All that is not, needless to say, a way to de-escalate things.
