7:45 p.m. Injury accident on Broadway at 11th Street

A man and a woman were hit at 11th Street and Broadway by a silver Mercedes, after a male driver ran
a red light, said Joe Jackson, 37, of Oakland, who witnessed the incident.

Onlookers said the driver deliberately ran over the pair, accelerating after a man hit on the hood of the car.

After the car stopped at the other end of the intersection, the driver switched seats with his female passenger.

About 40 people gathered in the intersection and some pulled open the driver's door.

Footage from the KPIX-TV helicopter over the scene showed a large crowd gathering around the scene of the incident within minutes. Police were seen questioning the driver before transporting him away from the scene in a police cruiser.

The severity of the victim’s injuries are unknown, but he appeared to be moving his extremities and responding to questions from emergency personnel. He was transported away by ambulance shortly after 8:00 p.m.

A car struck two Occupy Oakland protesters tonight as they marched with a crowd along Broadway, and an angry mob surrounded the car as emergency workers tended to the injured.

The driver, who was not identified, sat in his silver Mercedes-Benz sedan after the 7:30 p.m. incident while hundreds of people screamed at him through his closed windows.

Police arrived, questioned the driver and several witnesses, then let the driver leave the scene at 11th and Broadway in his car.

... As the driver left, many in the crowd yelled at him and at police, saying he should have stayed at the scene or been arrested.

14. There are a couple of reasons that a driver switches seats after an

accident. 1. He was drinking. 2. He does not have a license. 3. He is well known and does not want the attention.

If the victim died they are going to have to charge him with something. It is damn dangerous these days to be peaceful citizens walking along a road.
