Phoenix parents, friend arrested in boy's overdose on methadone

The parents of a 2-year-old boy who overdosed on the prescription painkiller methadone have been arrested and booked on multiple counts of child neglect and child abuse, according to the court records.

Anthony Casillas, 37, and Jennifer Campos, 35, are suspected of giving their son a mixture of Kool Aid and methadone, causing the toddler to overdose, according to Maricopa County Superior Court records. A friend of the couple's, Misty Murphy, 35, was arrested on suspicion of supplying the methadone, according to the documents.

The incident occurred Oct. 23 at a Motel 6 near the Black Canyon Highway and West Griswold Road in Phoenix, where the couple and their three children were staying. Campos told authorities that the family has been moving around and on the run since June because state Child Protective Services was trying to take the children away.

It's unclear whether CPS was out to remove children from the home or why. At some point during the motel stay, the 2-year-old boy apparently became fussy. His gums were bleeding and his teeth were rotting, according to the documents.

Maybe a license to procreate would be in order. Some people are just too stupid to be allowed to breed.

1. What a disturbing, tragic story. I'm so glad the little boy didn't die.
Two years old & his teeth were rotting -- damn. The parents smoked meth, supposedly in the bathroom, yet this little boy's teeth were affected. That's very telling about second-hand smoke.

2. More likely the rotting teeth were from carb/sugary food & lack of tooth care, I'd guess.

"bottle mouth" has the same effect without any meth being involved.

4. Your teeth don't rot from second hand meth smoke...
they obviously weren't caring for the kid's teeth.

Sadly, they're usually the ones who do it the most.
